This is one of the more poorly designed electronics in history. If you get a "replacement" handset follow the instructions under "summertimecrow" (see above post) or go to the link: http://dinofilias.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=000026 VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!! If you own the SPPS-2780 system and need to register a SPP-h273 HANDSET replace ("Erase", "Erase") in lieu of ("0", "0") Thus when registering 4 handsets, handset 1 should be: 01 04 erase erase pgm # ..
I had my 8 month old receiver (DA5000ES) in for service twice (a new $400 amp module was installed) and it still runs hot. I went in to Good Guys this weekend and touched the top of the receiver (after being on for 10 hours) (the same model) and it was half the temperature of my receiver. My receiver is twice as hot after only an hour of operation. This is without running any music or movies and it sits on top of the component cabinet, totally ventilated. It runs hot with the new speakers I purchased, it runs hot with the new wires I attached, it runs hot even if its just turned on WI ..
I had my receiver in twice and it still runs hot. I've run out of ideas... " Yes there is. It seems I've always been sent to the next level when inquiring about my unit. Just ask._9.6/9kS.W.Mike" Can you contact me Mike as who too contact????? Tom mysterytrain007@yahoo.com
Maxx, Similiarly, I think I've seen 100's of posts for "protect" mode problem. I have never heard of a receiver with quite a persistent, chronic problem.
Maxx, That statement is not true: “Robl” writes on 2003-12-18 11:57; “I just purchased the Sony ES STR-DA3000ES. Hooked up the system last night, and got a Problem/Error 13 message on the display and it shut off. The system was not even on for 30 seconds. Went to manual supplied and found that error message, which says that the power supply is overheated.” Also, on ..
The temperature in the room is very moderate. It sounds like my receiver is running hotter normal. It seems I haven't solved the problem. I am running out of solutions. Is there someone to contact at Sony that can actually help with "unsolveable" problems. Those morons in the Phillipines and the online support seems to be reading from a script. Is there a higher level of person to complain to at Sony????
I have a 7 month old DA5000 es receiver. I recently had the entire Amp module replaced due to ?. (I was getting many "Protect" warnings and finally the receiver wouldn't turn stay on.) I believe it may have been due to mixing 4 ohm speakers with 8 ohm speakers in surround mode. (the Sony online tech said not to mix 8 and 4 ohm speakers) I replaced my L & R, (Energy C-9's) & Center (Energy C-C3) to all 8 ohm speakers. I have cautiously run the receiver for a couple of hours a night in surround mode with NO "protector" warnings. After an hour of use, the top of receiver gets ve ..
Actually, I would say i play music and movies at a very moderate level. I think it may be the 4 ohm speakers. I talked to an online Sony tech (who I am sure is just reading from a script) and although it's not mentioned in the manual, he said not to "mix" speaker impedance.... Tom
Hey guys, I just received the STR-DA5000 back from repair and i wanted to ask some questions before I hook it up again. The entire Amplifier module was replaced (all 7 amps...), supposedly $400-500 for part only, but still on warranty. I got a meter from Radio Shack and the wiring seems fine. However, I discovered that the center speaker is actually only 4 ohms. As mentioned before, the main left and right AR's are 4 ohms. Additionally, I checked two side surrounds (Polk in walls) that measured around 6.7 ohms. The tech at my loc ..
Guys, Let me ask you something: Could the problem not be with the ACTUAL receiver? Yes, a rat could have chewed through the wiring. But... Receiver worked great for 5 months except for when the Tivo was connected. When Tivo was connected, PROTECT CAME ON... Then after Rcr was "repaired," Tivo worked fine. But when i used the DVD player, PROTECT CAME BACK... (I have read other protect problems with Tivo and/or DVD on your site It seems problems occur when multiple components are hooked up to DA5000. ..
Wow! You guys are all over this. My receiver is, in fact on top of my component cabinet... all sides are wide open! Goood ventilation I guess i wonder why the receiver would work fine for 5 months and then suddenly acquire a CHRONIC problem. There have been no changes in speaker wiring, and in fact, my Onkyo used this same set-up for 8 years... I tried all the suggestions on the "sony knowledge base" when the first round of problems occured. Not a fix... Similiarly, I can't check the wire behind the walls, but i hooked up each p ..
Mark, Left, Right Speakers - "Acoustic Research 610" - 90db 4 ohms Center - Energy c c-1 90db 8 ohms Rear, Back surrounds - "Klipsch (in wall) SCW-2" 92 db 8 ohms Sub - Velodyne 18A-5 ?? thanks, Tom
Hello First time poster---Great site for Sony Owners... Never had a problem with any Sony Product until now. I Purchased Sony DA5000es Receiver in Dec. 04. (This is after I read this receiver line had been recalled for overheating, but had been fixed/revamped.) I have seen all these problems in various forms on the site, but no consensus on solution: Receiver (Rcr) worked fine for 3-4 months, then ... i got a "Protect 11" when my Tivo was hooked up in either "Video 1 or 2." I disconnected the Tivo and Rcr work ..
