The problem was trying to change the mode via the remote. As per your suggestion, from the INPUT button, it worked a treat. What volume setting would you suggest the 5000es be set at? It's not a fixed level input like a regular power amp, so I have to guess at something. Thanks for the tips, much appreciated. Maurice
I'm using the multichannel output from a STR-DA5500ES into the 5000ES. It works, but the infrared remote signal to 5500ES messes with the 5000ES even though I have the IR sensor on the 5000ES covered with two layers of gaffer tape! The multichannel rca's are somehow passing info to the 5000ES. Is this even possible, or am I missing something? There was a thread about using the STR-DA5000ES this way, but I couldn't find it. Thanks in advance, Maurice.
tfboy, I'm sorry but I don't have anything to add to your 7100es issue, but can your 'good contacts inside Sony' say if the 5200es will be upgradable, via download, to decode the new high definition audio codecs? Indeed, your 7100es would be a candidate too. Regards, Maurice
Hi Olivier, Get the Sony STRDA5200es because it's an HDMI 'repeater' receiver. As you have a PS3, then you should get a HDMI repeater receiver, not just a HDMI switcher. A repeater will decode audio, as well as switching video. I'm going this way myself. Maurice
