I was wondering if we can make something of it in these days, and now I know that the story with digital satellite radio is over. It was a very good concept, as a precursor to the Internet radio today. Sony DAR-1000ES, such a great piece of equipment with no purpose today. | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | adding ta-n80es to str da 7es | Yes. Many of the ES amps get pretty hot. It might depend on the speakers. Most of the time I cannot hold my hand on the top cover longer than 3 seconds so I got two 120 mm PC fans, powered them with 4,5 Volts and put them on the top. And everybody's happy. At the time I wasn't using fans there were no issues at all. Just a lot of heat. P.S.: the higher the output the cooler it gets! [addsig] |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | adding ta-n80es to str da 7es | I`m using VA333ES as a preamp and TA-N80ES as a poweramp for home theater purposes. I think it works brilliantly. I`m pretty sure you will be able to set the levels appropriately, the digital circuitry may be bypassed but the speaker levels can still be adjusted! [addsig] |

| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | dual center channels my observations | Hi, I was also thinking about trying two center speakers since my current center speaker is driven by TA-N55ES in mono mode. My choice would be a pair of JBL L90, studio monitors with the same drivers as my fronts. I would put them in a slightly elevated position under the screen and direct them towards the sweetspot. Since this speakers are pretty big (12" bass driver), this raises another dilemma. Does that even make sense since most of us set all speakers to small and let the woofers produce low frequencies? | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | TA-N77ES | Mine is getting pretty hot too. Sometimes you can't hold your hand on the top cover longer than 2 seconds so I'm using two silent PC fans with regulated voltage for quite some time now. I also did some testing when raising the idle voltage on my N55ES. Blowing onto the transistors lowered the voltage and affected the working temperature. So my guess would be that cooling may affect the sound. Interesting, the amp gets extremely hot only when watching movies, that's when the fans come in. Pushing it hard in stereo mode makes it a little less hot. I also believe that heating has to do with .. |
