| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | I did this and it didn't make any difference. Also, in one of my conversations with a Speakercraft Tech he suggested I move a switch slider to a different position for a better "speaker-receiver" match. There was no improvement. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | Yes, all the ceiling and the two outside speakers have the volume control |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | That would be a good suggestion except I really don't want to buy 8 ceiling and 2 outdoor speakers. My old KLH receiver is doing just fine. Also, I have wondered if the individual transformer type volume controls contribute to the problem |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | Jehill: You have gone above and beyond. One last word. I connected two of the ceiling speakers (speakers were in parallel so 8 ohms) to the KLh receiverwith one of the TV speakers and I have the same problem. I could not hear the ceiling speakers unless I increased the volume which meant, of course, that the TV speakers were very, very loud. There is something about the ceiling speakers that is causing a mismatch. Thasks again.. Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | The TV speakers are 8 ohms. I have connected two of the ceiling speakers in parallel for 8 ohms which is the same as the TV speakers. When I connect these two speakers to the 7100 I still have the volume problem. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | I have done that and they measure 16 ohms using my mulitmeter. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | Hello: Well, I've talked to Sony and Speakercraft several times. Suggestion were made but none of them have fixed the volume problem. I think there is some kind of impedance matching problem or whatever and I have spent enough time trying. So, I'm done. I've gone as far as I can. I have the ceiling speakers connect to my KLH receiver and it works just fine. The 7100 is used as my 5.1 theater receiver and I can listen to CD's if I want. Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Remote Control | jehill: I now am able to do what I want to do with the Remote. Thank you for all you help Regards, Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Remote Control | Hi: I now can turn on the cable box- hooray I actually had been down this path but it didn't occur to me to use the AV 1/O key. Jehill to the rescue - thank you |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | HI: The outside speaker is a Speakercraft. Looking at their web site it seems all the outdoor speakers are 4 ohms. Assuming the ceiling are Speakercraft their impedance can be 8/6/4 ohms depending on some switch setting. I should have mentioned earlier that each of the ceiling speakers as well as the outside ones have their own cable so they are not interconnected in any way. I right now have two of the ceiling speaker cable ends twisted together and inserted into the speaker terminals of my KLH receiver. (Positive to positive and negative to negative. These two sp .. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | Hi: I have done this and the ceiling speakers are 10-12 ohms |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Remote Control | jehill: For being a Learner you sure know your away around that manual. Much better than me. Ref: AV 1/O The display shows only On and Off Which I have to take means the Auto Power function is either on or off. When I do as you suggest and select Cable there is listed 3 Scietiff choices. I have tried each one and all that happens is the receiver turns on to Video 2 I thik I'll cal Time Warner Thanks again Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | Hi: Whether the ceiling speakers are on A or B I have to crank up the volume compared to when the TV speakers on on either A or B. What to you think about the amp draw on the ceiling speakers vs the TV speakers? Unfortunately I have no literature on the ceiling speakers but two of the speakers are outdoors and maybe tomorrow I can take a look at them to see any identifying marks. Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Remote Control | Hello: jehill: I'm learning how to use the Remote and your comments are most helpful. The manual makes more sense now that I have played with the Remote but it still is difficult to understand. A few questions. 1. The AV 1/O key is not needed to turn on the CD player but I find that the only way to turn off the CD player is by using the AV 1/O key. 2. How do I turn on my Scientific Cable box? Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR DA7100ES Speaker Question | Hi: i'm still struggling with the A/B speaker outputs. I was wrong about the speaker box being the problem and some of my earlier comments are not correct too. Here's where I am: I can connect the ceiling speakers directly to the 7100 and it drives them OK but I must increase the volume a lot. So if I connect the ceiling speakers to the the A speaker terminals and the TV speakers to the B speaker terminals there is huge volume change when switching from one to the other. If I set the volume so the A terminal output can be heard B terminals output will be blasting. No .. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Remote Control | Hi: Thanks for the tips. I'll follow through on your tips. Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Remote Control | Hello again: BTW the Sony tech told me that the power output from the "B" speaker terminals is the same as from the "A" terminals. Does this sound right? Thanks |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Remote Control | Hello: I was able to find a cable in my spare part box so I didn't need to buy one. It works fine. However, the 7100 will switch only when the CD player is on and Play is pressed. That's nice but not what I wanted because I want to eliminate the CD Remote. So, I started investigating using the 7100 Remote as jehill just suggested. Learning to do that was fun to say the least. The manual leaves a lot to be desired. I'm starting to see that the 7100 Remote has a lot of capability but how to extract it isn't easy. The Learn function needs to be used and I did that te .. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Remote Control | maxx and Mr-Mod: Thanks for your answers. I'll get one at Radio Shack Richard |
| Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Remote Control | Hi maxx: Thanks for the information. Use of the Controls system will do exactly what I want to do. However, a quick search of the web indicates the S-cable is discontinued. I will call Sony tomorrow but jehill in an Agorawuest post last year said it is discontinued. With more searching I found that a radio shack "6-Ft. Shielded Cable, 1/8" Plug to 1/8" Plug" may work. Any thoughts on this cable? Regards, Richard |
