| Television Troublesh... | Home Theatre Speakers impacting TV | Try moving the speakers behind the set a little. That's about all you can do. The SOny sets are extremely sensitive to magnetic fields. |
| Television Troublesh... | 40XBR800 Corner color spots | You know I never place the speakers near a set whether they are shielded or not. You will always have stray magnetic fields around, especially if you crank it up! Powered subs are the same. There is a small amount that will leak past. Try placing you speaker or sub (shielded) near your set and crank it up and you'll see what I mean. Have you sub at least 5-6 feet from the set. |
| Television Troublesh... | 40XBR800 Corner color spots | Yes. Not so much the geometry but the red green and blue adjustments did. If you need the exact settings (the names), let me know. But since your set is new, give it some time to burn in. |
| Television Troublesh... | 40XBR800 a piece of JUNK????? | Ditto on the response. There are 2 adjustments you can make for your xbr for the bowing lines. Mine are perfectly straight. Check out the service manual area in the site. |
| Television Troublesh... | Bad picture when viewing progressive scan on 40xbr | Be sure your DVD player is set correctly and your TV is set correctly as well. When I compared the set's internal doubler to a prog scan player (Sony), I could not tell the difference. That just tells you how well the built-in doubler is. Also, be sure you are using GOOD cable. I said GOOD cause you could spend hundreds of dollars for a set of cables. I find my set which cost around 80.00 to do quite well. Cheap cables really show when using a prog scan player. |
| Television Troublesh... | 40XBR800 lower left corner brown discoloration | Please look at some of the prior posts regarding the placement of your set in relation to north and south poles. These big sets are extremely sensitive to all sources of magnetic interferences. |
| Television Troublesh... | 40XBR800 Corner color spots | Give your set a month to burn in to see if it may go away. I have a 40xbr700 and I had the same problem. I also went into the service mode and made some very small adjustments to the color geometry. I still have a slight yellow tint at the lower right corner on a white background but I can live with it. Some of it may also be the TV set's location in relation to the north and south poles. Yes it DOES make a difference WHERE the set is. You would have to call a Sony tech to move the magnets inside the cabinet if it really bothers you. |
| DVD | Is the Sony DVP-NS900 capable of playing back ripp | one more thing... You can only store around an hour per cd for vcds/svcds. Also, the response above is correct about divx. There are currently no players that are standalone that will play them (other than pc) If you are interested in doing these, go to vcdhelp.com cause there is tons of info for the newbies and faq that will greatly assist you. |
| DVD | Is the Sony DVP-NS900 capable of playing back ripp | Go to vcd.com for help and proper programs to download to convert your file. Most are free programs. Also, don't waste your time using Nero cause many times it does not do it correctly. Instead, use Tempgenc, vcdgear, and dvd2avi to convert the file. Trust me, I have spent countless hours making vcd and svcds. Also be sure you use proper blank cds cause Sonys do not read certain brands. Fuji and TDK work best when burning vcds. The STD brand from circuit city also work well (Called digital media) and are cheap. Don't burn faster than 4x or it may need read either. go .. |
| DVD | Hello, gonna start with a Q. | Go to the Crutchfield website and they have all the new models also posted there. The 700 is going to be discontinued and you can now find them for around 225.00. That is the lowest I have seen them here in the southern CA area. Visually you will most likely not see too much difference EXCEPT having 108 mhz processor is TWICE the speed of even the current models. What this might do is to load your DVDs a little quicker too (so I have heard). I chose not to get the progressive scan since the 3:2 pulldown on my 40xbr700 does such a great job. In fact, I would .. |
| Television Misc and ... | Anamorphic DVD on 40XBR700 query | Sounds like you guys are a little confused on this topic. I have the 40xbr and even if you are using component video the set WILL auto detect 16x9 material. Here is the catch though...1) Some non-Sony DVD players do not send the correct signal so they cannot auto detect the 16x9. 2) If you are using a prog scan DVD player, you will need to MANUALLY set the function when you start the movie. You will know if it is anamorphic cause the image will be real tall Hope that clears up the confusion... |
| Television Misc and ... | 36XBR vs 16:9 34XBR | I measured it diagonally with a tape with both sets side by side playing identical movie in 2:35 anamorphic. As I recall, the 34xbr was around an inch larger. Now if you fill the screen its even larger than that. An inch may not sound like much but is noticeable when you are watching movies. |
| Television Misc and ... | 36XBR vs 16:9 34XBR | I had the 36xbr450 and almost bought the 34xbr2. I traded up and got the 40xbr700 instead. Its important to note that the 34" will give you a slightly larger viewing area than the 36". However if you view the entire screen with the zoom feature you will lose some of the edges as a tradeoff. You will also still have black bars with 2:35 movies and smaller bars with 1:85 movies. I had a tough decision to make but went with the 36xbr450. I was still not quite satisfied so I traded up to the 40xbr700 which has a larger image than both the 34 and 36 models. I had even considered .. |
| Television Misc and ... | Opinions needed, re: S-Video vs. Component | Yes to all the above comments. The biggest jump is going from composite to s-video. From s-video to component there is probably less than 10% and hardly noticeable to most viewers. Just have a good s-video cable. With Component video, the differences are more subtle, but are more noticeable with the XBR models with the 3:2 pulldown and/or using progressive scan DVD player. At your stage, not worth the extra $$ for the difference you probably will not even see on your set. |
| Other (Tape, Short W... | sony home cinema---need help vey badly | Mine was around 1,500.00 You can get lesser ones that also produce great bass. I tried 3 different series of Velodyne and they all pack quite a punch. The one that sells for around 900-1k is also good (1 step level below mine). I opted to get the 12" size cause I built it into a wood stand. The 15" and 18" models were just a little too large for the cabinet. They also have an 8" model that kicks out quite a punch for being a unit around 11" square. When you have a good sub that can deliver 20 hz without distortion....believe me you can hear the diff .. |
| Other (Tape, Short W... | sony home cinema---need help vey badly | Insider is right. You want bass? You will be better off with a receiver and adding a powered sub. None of the subs that are packaged as a system (from Sony) will deliver adequate bass for your needs (from what you are describing). I added a Velodyne 3000watt sub so I have sufficient bass. I actually went through 3 subs to get one that satisfied my needs for good solid bass down to 20hz. The Sony system will suffice but if you have a very large room, you may even consider going the separate route. I have heard all the systems you mentioned. Keep in mind the size of yo .. |
| Television Troublesh... | Digital cable reception | Sometimes it will. Go to radio shack and try one out and keep the box so you can return it if your desired results are not achieved. You can also look at your connections and replace any coax that looks old. These can make a big difference. The other thing you can do is to look at your cable box and if it has either composite video or svideo, use them. Some of the newer ones have svideo (I wish I did) and your image will be much improved over coax signal. The amp usually goes right behind your set. For example, the cable coming from the wall goes into the amp. Another cable c .. |
| Television Troublesh... | Wega High Pitch Whine | Did you buy a service warranty? In all my experiences with Sony TVs (even before Wegas), after about 7-8 years of usage, I recall 2 of my other Sonys doing the same thing. On my last set, it went out after a few months of the "whine". But your set is too new for that. If you had a service warranty, I'd call them asap. good luck |
| Television Configura... | Auto Setup Prompt keeps coming back | Unlock the channel 3 first before going through the auto setup. After it goes through, then lock channel 3 for your cable box. Since you are in Santa Monica, you must be with adelphia and have the same digital receiver as me (that is where I live). I sure wish they would have svideo on their cable boxes. |
| Television Configura... | xbr450 - 16:9 Enhanced - HELP! | I typically don't even buy movies (unless I really want them) if they are not anamorphic. Sure the image is slightly more compressed, but the detail level on a 16x9 vs non-widescreen is tremendous. All new titles are generally anamorphic. Even if you have a 16x9 set, you will still have black bars with movies. The only way is the movie has to be in 1:78 to fill the screen naturally. 1:85 is close and will leave small black bars. You can zoom to fill the screen, but then you will always lose some of the picture on the sides. |
