Yes, just connecting and dis-connecting a receiver (with careful labeling, banana plugs on all speaker connections, HDMI source connection cabling and only a TV, BluRay and cable box connections) is very time consuming. Your kind remarks are most appreciated. Scott
*** Frustrated Update *** I spent an hour and a half this morning connecting and disconnecting my receiver. Its not fixed! At first I had audio and audio display and felt great. Then, I noticed a slow reduction in the audio and then no audio and no audio display. Naturally I was pissed. I spent another 15 mins disconnecting and re-doing the cabling so at least I could watch TV and Blu Ray with audio. Needless to say I am, well you know. I will keep you posted. At this point, I am considering requesting a complete replacement from Sony. And suggestions are welcome. Scott ..
*** UPDATE *** I promised to get back to you all on this issue. Here goes: I picked it up today (9/14), the invoice said, "isolated deffective part." Down in the fine print it indicated a "digital board" had been replaced under warranty, p/n a1252342a. I havent re-connected it yet, as its a bit of a project in and of itself, but I assume all is well. Scott [addsig]
Yes, still under the fiver year ES warranty. I did say to the repair place, "I'm getting fed up with Sony's quality control." He said, "They're all the same, believe me." Pretty sad, especially for the money we pay for some of the stuff. Anyway, when I get it back, I'll let you guys know how it went.
Hey guys, Nothing I tried worked, so the receiver is in a local authorized Sony repair shop.....and, as a side note, it took me 40 mins and three different phone calls to find out that if you ship your Sony item for a factory authorized replacement, that replacement carries on the five year warranty of the original, it does NOT being a new warranty. I will try and keep you updated as to the fix. Right now, I'm pretty down on Sony. And this feeling is reinforced by all the problems reported on this site. Scott
Thanks for the quick replies, guys. Beleive it or not, its comforting under the circumstances..... Yes, I have powered down the receiver (in fact each night) but I dont remember how to do a reset. Can you refresh my memory? And yes, the Speaker selector is set to A. I've never seen the display be totally blank on the left side. Any and all help is really really appreciated.
Hey guys, Long Long time since I've been on here. A sudden issue has cropped up with my receiver - no sound, and no speaker icons on the left side of the display. Yikes! Its as if the receiver doesnt realize that there are speakers are hooked up, let along that any are activated. Specifically, there are no graphics on the left side of the receiver's display where usually, it tells you which speakers are connected and which are activated. Please help. Thank you, Scott[addsig]
Yes, I remember seeing this statement (p.80 of manual) that said something about signals exceeding 96hz will be played back at 44.1 or 48 khz. Either way, you apparently MUST be playing the source you want to adjust....yikes.
Yes, it does but I still havent totally gotten to the bottom of it. To me, its really unintuitive. Plus, no matter what soundfield you use, when you go back into EQ to change settings, the one you see is dependant on the source you are using. So, if I want to change EQ for multi-stereo, I cant make changes, if I am in a 2 channel source, like cable music. Its even complicated to write about on here.........
Well, after one call to Sony Tech Support and some experimentation, I've answered my own question. To use the "EQ" function in "Settings," you must first start a Source (CD, BluRay, etc) that uses the Soundfield (AFD Auto, etc) that you want to adjust, THEN go into "Surrond, Soundfield" in "Settings" make sure that particular Soundfield shows, THEN go into EQ and adjust each speaker. Its SORT OF explained in the Manual, but not really.
Hi Clearsong, I too have the 5300 and have settled on the multi-stereo soundfield for music and AFD Auto for BluRay. Like you, I found the number of soundfields bewildering. For more fun, see my recent post about setting EQ on the 5300. Sony tech support now tells me I need to go into the "soundfield" menu and changed to AFD Auto to get the "2CH Direct" to change in the EQ menu.....FUN.
Hello again. For those of you who own a Sony STRDA5300ES receiver, I have a question about configuring the EQ. The procedure is described on page 80 of the owners manual. If you look at the picture on page 80, or go to the Settings Menu in the onscreen GUI, you will see a Soundfield (AFD Auto, 2CH Direct, ect) in the upper right hand corner. For the life of me, I cannot change this field from 2CH direct. Even if I go to, say EQ2, which is another EQ option, it still says 2CH Direct. Because of this, I can only change EQ settings for the Front speakers. ...... Any ideas?[addsig]
Mav, This one's for you: Sony Announces Three Blu-ray Players for Australia Posted August 12, 2009 04:43 AM by Juan Calonge Sony has announced three new Blu-ray players for the Australian market, with model numbers BDP-S360 , BDP-S560 and BDP-S760 . Details for the two first models are similar to their US versions, with BD-Live support and 1080p video on both of them, and wireless connectivity on the BDP-S560. The BDP-S760, in turn, is positioned as a flagship model. The BDP-S760 will include 7.1 ana ..
Hello, Sony Europe announced a new Bravia series television this past June, the Z5500. Lots of Internet enabled features, etc. But also 200hz motion flow, anti-blur technology, and the third gen of Bravia Engine. Does anyone know of a US release date???[addsig]
Hi Joe, I honestly cant explain the need to replace the drive mechanism as the player sat motionless on a shelf just playing movies since it was purchased this past October. As for the fact that the original box wasnt returned, I cant explain that either but I can say its irritating. I have sent four emails to sonysvclrd@am.sony.com which have gone unanswered.
Hello, I have good news to report: my BDP-S500 is back from repair and working perfectly! Apparently the drive was damaged and needed to be replaced. I have absolutely NO idea how it could have been damaged but so be it. Thats the good news. The not so good news is that I shipped the unit back in its original packing and it was returned to me in a small, cheap box with thin little styrofoam inserts! Not too happy about that.....so, beware. If you need SONY repair, DONT ship the unit back in its original carton if you want to keep that for added resale or other purposes in the fut ..
Hey Mav, I am supposed to receive my "repaired" 550 back from Sony tomorrow so I'll have a report on here about the results. As for your load procedure, I dont think I ever needed to press enter on the remote at the BluRay GUI screen-it would load the disc automatically right after that menu showed. Then there was some little spinning or moving logo thing, which I assumed was the Java loading, and then the FBI screens. More tomorrow, Scott
I'm pretty sure the audio stayed on. Something to also consider: how old your set? Mine had about 4900 hours. There's a thread on here that explains how to get into the service menu to find out. Its not definitive in telling you whether or not to replace the bulb, but its sort of another clue. Anyway, based on my experience, I'd replace the bulb and go from there.
