Get a DVD writer for your computer first. It's much more versatile and many different types of software are available. If you buy a dedicated DVD recorder then you are stuck with their software and any restrictions they want to force on you. One important point. Find a brand of blank DVD's that work with your DVD player. I just got a Sony DVP-CX777ES and it has trouble with all of my old 1x DVD's I burned. It works great with my old 4x DVD's. I now have to transfer all my old 1x DVD's to new media.
I purchased my CS777ES several weeks ago. I am programming a web based interface using Java, Tomcat, HSQLDB, and Hibernate. The software works, but the autoplay is really hard to beat. I found a solution, but it does cost a little money and time. I just rip my movies using DVD Shrink and the problem is solved. It removes Macrovision, forced sections, mandatory previews, etc. It puts me back in command of my property. Most disks I only rip the movie and leave out the extras. Now my software can go directly to any slot/track/chapter and start playing the movie. My wife and I both have wireless l ..
Thanks for the info. That makes since. I have an easy solution, it's not free, but it does give me total control. I just rip the movies using DVD Shrink and remove all the forced sections, region code, and Macroivision. I have ripped several movies and it works great. I have an original copy of The Bachelor and using software to control the player if I tell the player to skip to the movie and start playing it still shows all the FBI warning screens and the menu. It will play all the way through the menu and then start playing the movie. I think I will rip the movie this weekend and put the ori ..
I discovered why I was having issues with Macrovision. I have the unit connected to an old TV/VCR combo to play with it. I connected the unit into the AUX input so I guess because it's a TV/VCR combo unit Macrovision kicks in. I dug out an old Macrovision scruber unit that I have not used for over 10 years and it fixed the problem. I am still having problems with auto-play. I can't get it to stop autoplaying when I turn the unit on.
I just received my DVP-CX777ES last week. I put in a copy of the original Predator (1987) with Arnold Schwarzenegger. The problem is that while it is playing back the picture goes from light to dark and back. This looks like Macrovision is causing the problem. Any idea why this is happening? Also I can't get my DVP-CX777ES to stop auto-playing the last disk when I turn the unit on. I have turn auto-play off , but it still auto plays the last disk when I turn the unit on.
Download DVD Shrink from the URL below. Rip the original DVD removing the region code. Burn it to a single-layer DVD and play it til the cows come home. DVD Shrink works VERY VERY WELL. As long as you have the original DVD this should be legal. URL: http://www.dvdshrink.org/
Here is the Sony link for the DVP-CX777ES . URL: http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?Dept=hav&TemplateName=item%2fsy_item_a&ProductSKU=DVPCX777ES
Good argument for today, but will fall down tomorrow. When I first started burning CD-R disks they cost between $5 and $10 each. The price came down to the point where they are almost free. I have gotten several 50 packs of CD-R disks for free after rebate. When I first started burning DVDs I was paying $2 each. Today it's about 50 cent for name brand media and is dropping everyday. The Sony DVP-CX777ES lists at $800.00. I found it on the web for about $550.00. That's still a lot of money and I want to keep it for several years. Has anyone tried a home burned dual-layer DVD in the DVP ..
I sent an email to Sony support and I got the following response. I'm not sure if I got the right answer. I ask if the DVP-CX777ES would play dual-layer DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW. I was given a link to Sony DVD burners. Maybe he did'nt understand the question. What do you think? javascript:editor_insertHTML('message',' '); --------------------------------------------------------------- Subject --------------------------------------------------------------- Does the DVP-CX777ES support dual-layer DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW. I plan on buying the Sony DVP-CX777ES. Over the last few years I have burned many SVCD and DVDs. Currently I can only burn single-layer DVD-R and DVD+R. Next year I plan to upgrade to a dual-layer burner. Will the Sony DVP-CX777ES play back dual-layer DVD-R or DVD+R? Thanks
