| Television Configura... | KDL46-Z5100 always displays 480p SD | To get HD, your Dish Network box must be HD. Also, you must use the component or HDMI inputs. If you are using RF (channel 3 or 4), composite (yellow/red/white), or S-Video, it will only be SD. |
| Television Misc and ... | Samsung appears to be the leader in LCD product de | Does anybody really believe those 'dynamic contrast ratio' claims?? |
| Television Configura... | Can NTSC version of kv-32fs120 be made to display | It's remotely possible there are some service menu entries, but that may disable NTSC recognition. Generally, North American market TV's are typically NTSC only. PAL may require hardware changes in addition to service menu changes. |
| Blu-Ray/HD DVD | Problems Playing New BluRay Releases - Sony BDP0S5 | On 2009-07-23 17:00, boulderskies wrote: Well, with all due respect, I cant see how either one of those could be at issue here. These BluRays are studio-issued, publically available discs being used on a Sony standard issue player. Given studio paranoia, they may be enabling or using various levels of security that are causing problems with some players. The BluRay spec is a moving standard. They seem to come out with a new version every few months! There are probably tons of bugs in both the firmware and even how the disk is mastered. [addsig] |
| Blu-Ray/HD DVD | Problems Playing New BluRay Releases - Sony BDP0S5 | Ain't DRM and 'copy protection' fun?? |
| Television Configura... | KV-34XBR910 Display Config Question | There is a tilt option in the user menus. For the service menu, the settings are in the 2170D-1 (horizontal lines) and 2170D-2 (vertical lines). 2170D-1/NSCO is the master tilt. I had a similar issue after moving. I had to do much more than just tilt, as it also threw off trapezoid, pincushion and linearity. I don't know if it's that sensitive to the Earth's magnetism (it went from screen facing South to North) or if the coils on the CRT shifted. There is a spreadsheet with all the service menu settings, and some descriptions here: http://home.att.net/~andyross/AV/XBR910_Service_Menu.ZI .. |
| Television Misc and ... | Connecting KV-34XBR910 to a PC | You possibly can connect a PC, but the TV is not a MultiSync. It's possible you could damage something by sending the wrong signal. You must send something that is standard SD or HD. |
| Blu-Ray/HD DVD | A black bars question | On 2009-06-23 09:39, Yamama wrote:What type of Sony TV shows a 2.40:1 movie without letterboxing? I think there are some projectors that have a 2.35:1 mode, but that is mainly an anamorphic setup like 16:9 on DVD. I don't know if it's really supported anywhere yet. You'll either have to get used to the letterboxing, or use a zoom mode to cut them off. [addsig] |
| Blu-Ray/HD DVD | No Eject Button on Remote | In general, losing the remote is MUCH more likely than a button going bad. There are many universal remotes that either have or can be programmed for an eject code. |
| Blu-Ray/HD DVD | No Eject Button on Remote | What's the use of remotely ejecting the disk? You have to physically walk over and change it anyways!! |
| Blu-Ray/HD DVD | A black bars question | Many movies are 2.35:1, others 1.78:1. Your TV is 16:9=1.67:1. For a 1.78:1 movie, there may be a tiny letterbox on the top and bottom, but probably only visible with 0% overscan. At 2.35:1, there will be some letterboxing, a bit less than watching 16:9 on a 4:3 screen. Depending on the movies you watched before, maybe many were 1.78:1, or you had your DVD player or TV in a ZOOM mode. [addsig] |
| Television Misc and ... | Sony's XBR9 and Z-series TVs herald the death of t | Comcast has a 250G monthly usage cap. If you exceed it, you first get a warning, then your service is terminated. It used to be a floating 'top 1%' type of cap, but after several lawsuits, they went to a fixed number. It's the same no matter which Internet package you have. Other ISP's often have lower caps. TimeWarner has been testing 10-25G caps and charging $1-2 for each 1G above the cap. Most wireless plans are 5G or less and overages can result in termination. Comcast also has congestion limits. If your node is getting congested, and your connection seems to be a major cause, they lower .. |
| Television Misc and ... | Sony's XBR9 and Z-series TVs herald the death of t | To me, no set-top-box means tru2way support. Internet support is nice, but still limited content, quality, and subject to speed and usage caps by more and more ISP's. [addsig] |
| Television Installat... | KDL-40S2400 Horizontal line | If it's just one line of pixels, it could be a bad screen. One of the transistors that controls that row has gone bad. I assume it doesn't move no matter the resolution of the source? [addsig] |
| Blu-Ray/HD DVD | Spare remote control for BDP-S550? Universal mayb | You may want to consider the One-For-All series. They are cheap and higher models can be programmed with a serial cable (newer ones use standard serial, and are compatible with USB-to-serial adapters.) Check out some of the info here: http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/ [addsig] |
| Television Configura... | How to Calibrate your HDTV with Avia/Digital Video | On most Sony's, it is named 'PICTURE' instead of 'CONTRAST'. Unless the XBR5 has a special user menu to individually adjust colors (maybe in some advanced menu?) you would need to go to that level in the service menu. Otherwise, you are mostly limited to color temperature and tint/color settings. ----------------- Sony KV-30XBR910, Sony STR-DB930, Sony DVP-NS55P, JVC HR-S3800U, Motorola DCT-6412, Sony KV-13FS100, OneForAll URC-8910. | Television Misc and ... | TO Buy or not to buy extended warranty with sony l | Generally, extended warranties are a waste of money for electronics. Consumer Reports and most other sources say to avoid them. On top of that, XBR's typically have longer warranties to begin with. [addsig] |
| Television Configura... | Help on Sony CRT WEGA TV's with HDMI or Not? | I don't think Sony sells any CRT's anymore, unless you are looking for a used TV. The KD-34XBR960 is probably the best direct-view CRT. Digital tuner, PiP, HDMI, Fine pitch tube, etc... Avoid the later XBR970, which dropped the fine pitch tube and many other features. The XBR910 and XS955 series were also pretty good. No digital tuners, and had older-style menus, but did have fine-pitch. They have DVI, but all you need is an adapter to use it with HDMI. Avoid the HS series, which do not have fine pitch and didn't have very good pictures. I have a 30XBR910, and have manually t .. |
