I asked what I was supposed to do with my old TV and he just said that it was mine to do whatever I wanted with it. I should have my new TV in 7 to 10 days. What do you guys think is the best thing to do with my old set? [ This message was edited by: swcom120 on 2008-11-12 16 ..
An interesting thing happened the other day and maybe someone can shed some insight to my question. Over the past weekend our cable compapny (comcat) was giving a few days of free HBO to promote their network and their new "Rome" show. On the starting day I was curious about recent channel changes and I retuned my KDF60WF set and I had a LOT more channels that the basic service for which I subscribe. I knew that the cable company was going to give free HBO for a few days but I did not expect the whole digital cable channel lineup including a few HD channels (which looked pretty ..
Thanks for the link Joe. Still I haven't had much luck with getting definitive info. as it seems this type of thing, hooking CPU to LCD TV, isn't very common yet. Either that is because most people don't care to do to try it or it doesn't work too well. Most info I have found indicates that compatibility has more to do with the computers video card than the actual TV's themselves. This is good to know because it implies that eventually, given enough demand, video cards manufacturers will provide card options allowing us to hook up our computers to our HD TV's. ..
I am wondering if anyone has sucessfully connected their computer DVI or other converted signal to their LCD RPTV? Most of the newer sets have HDMI and many computer video cards have DVI. Will the comp output synch up to the TV? T

Joe I do notice a difference between standard and reduce. It is very subtle but it's there. I think it adds a bit to the "black" m ..
J, I don't know your technical background but then you may not have one in TV or audio production or video, etc... My suspicion is that you are a standard viewer of TV, video, or film etc...? It is very common that the majority of people are "used to" a bright picture and they find TV settings approaching what they should be as "dark" or "dim" or "not bright enough". That is an issue with what you are used to as opposed to what the picture should look like. Yes, as was mentioned there is an adjustment period. You have to recalibrate your eyes and brain so that you can ..

Interesting topic. I too couldn't decide on what to get but I wanted something to at least help those lines a bit. I saw the Monster version and WOW the price! Bestbuy also had some AR models which "looked" promising. Then I remembered that I had bought a very nice unit for my computer setup. So, I went to the computer supplies to see what they had. The prices were MUCH lower yet they described the same things and even had the same hookup connectors, like; co-ax cable, phone, data, and power. They described the same power conditions and filtering. The big ..

Graininess has reduced. I use my DVD play in regular 720p rather than 1080i mode. For some reason that seemed to helped. My guess is that if the movie is not recorded with higher resoultion, streching it is causing gaininess. Also on the other note, how do I get into service menu of my TV ? Thanks, ..

For instance a green tint in a dark or bright screen might indicate a grayscale issue. A "strong" or "glowing" or "wrong color" green relative to blue and red might indicate a color decoder issue. Using the DVE DVD and color filters, one adjusts color and hue so that each color within the DVD generated color "bar" appears uniform as close to the same shade as possible. This can be ..

LCD rear projection does suffer from "aging" and Sony has admitted as such. How do I know this? Well, I do not have first had information. I do have information from a TV tech who does a lot for TV/electronics repair for Bestbuy and Circuit city customers. He works for a smaller electronics dealer in our area, but they also do contract work for the bigger guys. He was out a couple of months ago working on a 5 year old Sony RPTV, which still works great as does a 15 yr. old Sony 27" tube I have. Per my extended contract, which is set to expire in a couple of months, the tech ca ..

I've read conflicting results with the use of HDMI/DVI vs. component in regards to DVD connections. When using component connections, your DVD players output is optimized in that it will display progressive scan on your TV. It is the best image we've had before the options of DVI/HDMI. The newer DVD players which have an optional DVI/HDMI output are still the same DVD players playing the same DVD's. Those DVD's are NOT "HD" DVD. IOW, the source material is still the same NTSC optimized source with a potential 525 lines of resolution. We typically get 480i (interlaced) or 480p ..
Maxx, Well, sir, my initial impressions are as stated. I like the cable for certain purposes as I noted. I have also stated that further review will be forthcoming as I gain more experience with the optical cable. And, I will post my impressions whether they change or not. That is regardless of your opinion or of those who share it. If, as YOU say, everyone is entitled to their opinion, then let it be so. Why try so hard to denounce an opinion which doesn't fit exactly your own, if you are so accepting? (Maxx-quote) "Everyone has a right to th ..
Is it possible that your settings got changed during this "blinking" incident? I'm guessing you did redo the settings to get the best picture possible. If not, try going through the settings again. I find the "vivid" mode to suck badly. I don't like it with DVDs either. The "pro" mode is the best and gives a few more adjustments. Work with your "clarity" and "reality" setttings with the DVD input and try out density settings as well. I like the 4X setting, the top one in a choice of 3. It appears to be the sharpest. Also, make sure you don't push the sharpness control to ..
Great suggestion Tyrone. Love that name. I've been using the "power saver" mode from day 1 and it does improve the overall balance for me as well. I have the 60WF Sony. Also, I tend to keep the overall lighting in the room not too bright so that I can keep the contrast and brightness settings at their best without having to push them to compensate for a bright room. TT
I have the 60WF Sony. I sit about 12ft back from the screen. The nice thing about the Wf is the "pro" settings. It allows you to control 2 things Sony like to call "clarity" & "reality". Tweaking those settings has really helped make the image better for me and it makes the little SDE there is almost unnoticeable. For all intents and purposes, I don't see it like I have seen it on older Sony models or even on newer DLP's from Samsung. I still see something in the DLP's that looks like SDE. I run my "pro" adjustements to almost all "reality" with little "clarity" added. A ..
HI Celvin, I can't be sure as it's hard sometimes to help when you can't see things. But, did you say you have BOTH the coax digital AND RCA audio connected? That may be the problem. Try disconnecting the RCA audio (left/right analog) cables from the DVD and receiver. Make sure you have ONLY the digital coax running from the DVD to the proper input on the reciever. Also, make sure again that you have digital out selected in the DVD player as well as making sure that the DVD input to the receiver is set to accept the digital coax signal. Does your receiever have an "au ..
