Home Theater GalleryMy Modest HTSjehill, I know this is an old post but I have a suggestion for you. Moving your center speaker to the top of your stand and wall mounting your TV will make your center speaker sound better. I did that to mine and the center sounds much better now. But, maybe that's impossible for you to do.
Do It Yourself Home ... RCA Plug Caps I wonder how these things work. I guess shielding an unused input prevents stray RF from entering. I once had a Soundcraftsmen Pre Amp that I had to put shorting RCA's on the unused Phono 2 Input to prevent noise. I at first thought these caps had some sort of a resistor in them. Maybe I'll try some.
Television Troublesh...Replacing LCD screen on Sony KDL-32M3000My sons friend threw a coin at my 42" LCD a few years ago and cracked the screen. His parents Homeowners Insurance covered the cost for a new one. It was cost prohibitive to replace the screen. I think the way some ins. works is that if someone in your own home breaks it, they will not cover it. Give it a try.
Off-topicMOVIE/TV NEWSdragon53, I too will miss your posts.
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...DA7ES Shutting downThats why were here, to help.
Home Theater GalleryA Work In ProgressVery nice system. I like the fact that your components are not in a cabinet, good for air flow. I really like your diffusers, they blend into the room. I wish I could get some, but I don't think the wife would allow it. I am lucky enough to have all my stuff in the new family room. Don't want to push things much further!
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...DA7ES Shutting downDavid_S, Good thought. It's rare for a speaker to short. I had a Paradigm Speaker short once. The cause was the bare wires from the speakers terminal to the paper cone were touching.
Other (Tape, Short W...Finally got a Sony Turntable!sonyeslover, Nice "Phonograph". Someday I'm going up to the attic and bring out my old Pioneer PL-50 Turntable. Got a lot of classic LP's from the 60's and 70's. Be nice to hear vinyl again. It's been a while. Very nice find.
Television Misc and ...Sony 4K OLEDDarn it, I was going to get one, but I wanted a 60"
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...New 5700ES stuck in Protector modekito2112 What I meant to say was did you disconnect the speaker wires from the receiver to the speaker before you made your measurement. Measure right across where the receiver speaker wires connect to the speaker with them disconnected. You should read 8 ohms if everything is ok. 0 ohms is a short.
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...New 5700ES stuck in Protector modekito2112 Yes, 2 wires touching will create a short. Its odd for a speaker to short. Have you disconnected the wires to that speaker before you made your measurement?
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...New 5700ES stuck in Protector modekito2112 It is odd for a speaker to short, they usually open. You might want to take a peek at the back side of your woofer. The bare wires going to the cone may be touching together. It happened to me once.
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...TA-E80ESChupa, I agree and disagree with you and others on Agoraquest. You Swiss guys have a reputation of not being a bunch of Dummies. Power Cords: I can see replacing them on high current demand components (Receivers, Power Amps, Subwoofers) if you touch them and feel heat. Heat means a voltage drop. If you have a voltage drop, sound quality will suffer. ( Ohms Law )  But I cant see replacing your AC Receptacle with an all copper one when your service entry cable is aluminum as most homes are wired. RCA Cables: I cant tell the difference between out of the box red and white cables and ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...STR-DA7ESHi Series I think the Da7 came out around 2003. I had the DA4 since 2003, very similar but the DA7 has more power out. I love the 7.1 inputs which I use for my Oppo BDP-83. The audio is awesome. I mostly use Auto Decoding and Sony's Cinema A, B, and C for other sources. I plan on using this receiver for many years to come. As for the firmware I agree, if it aint broke, dont fix it.
Off-topicWorld still here.mykyll2727, jttar The wife liked your comments. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you guys and all on this site.
Off-topicWorld still here.Today is my wifes birthday. Sure glad I got her a gift!
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...TA-E80ESI see a crooked capacitor on the power supply board. Just joking. Nice job David S. Any hoo, how's the sound quality?
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Just picked up a Sony STR-6800SD receivermjcmt, Looking at your vintage receiver might just make me go up into my attic and fire up my old Pioneer FM Tuner. (I think it was a TX9800) Back in the 70's the emphasis was always placed on FM Tuner Sensitivity,Selectivity,Separation, etc. Todays receivers no longer have quality FM Radios. I guess people no longer care about FM Radio, but not me. I liked the old tuning meters. I have a old vintage Akai Receiver in my garage and it rocks!
Off-topicsubwoofer setup tutorialmykyll2727, Thanks for responding. I am a little late in responding to you, sorry. Been very busy lately. Will use your recommendation when I get time. Once again, thanks.
Off-topicsubwoofer setup tutorialjehill, I noticed you have the ability to connect your sub to the center speaker. I am wondering if I use the speaker level connections, that I might lose some bass by not being able to use the center speaker output in my 7.1 setup. Sunfire (HRS-12) also says that in order to use the speaker level inputs, your speaker terminals on your receiver (DA4ES) must be common grounded or it wont work. My Sunfire speaker terminals are common grounded.
