I've recently upgraded my HT to include a 3D Projector and a BR Player. My old PureAV Silver Series HDMI cables work perfectly fine with the 3D and Hi-Rez Audio even though they were from HDMI 1.1 era. In addition I've added mostly Monoprice cables, just the cheapest $4 high speed cables the have in 4-8ft lengths and noticed no difference in performance over my PureAV cables. I did find it difficult to find a "high speed" cable in a 25ft length for my PJ. Monoprice has a "professional" cable that I eneded up getting, but it was ma .. | | Off-topic | Best Buy ends ‘showrooming’ with Low Price Guarant | They've closed a few Best Buys in Canada recently, blaming showrooming as one reason. I just have no reason to make larger purchases there. Their staff don't know jack and their lowest price guarantee isn't even worth exploiting because they will only beat it by a small percentage of "THE DIFFERENCE". Which equates to only a couple bucks on most big ticket items. Personally I find it insulting. Recently when I was looking at projectors, they didn't even have a display for them. you could see them out of the box but that was it. No demos what so ever. No Sale! Lyle | | Off-topic | MOVIE/TV NEWS | Nooooooooooooo DON'T DO IT! You can't quit, you are my foremost source for movie tidbits! What a sad day. Your posts will be sorely missed and thank you so much for your 87 pages of daily posting, I really appreciated it. Lyle [ This message was edited by: SNY4ME on 2013-02-07 11:47 ] | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | 7100ES w/Oppo BDP-93??? | So first testing coming back with my 7100ES and my new Oppo BPD-103. I haven't done much but I've got the 7100 connected both via hdmi and 7.1 Analog. Previously I set my receiver to convert with DPL2X 5.1 to 7.1. This worked fine via toslink and I had no expectations that it would work via LPCM. But to my surprise, with my oppo set to covert all hd audio formats to LPCM my 7100 is outputting 7.1 LPCM at 48khz. Now I'm certain that DPL has nothing to do with the conversion, so I'm very surprised that it's processing 7.1. I'm going to play around with it some more an .. | | Off-topic | First Ultra HD channel goes live in Europe | Considering how close you'll have to be to tell the difference between 4k and 1080P this format is proof electronic companies are running out of things to sell us. | | Off-topic | First Ultra HD channel goes live in Europe | Considering how close you'll have to be to tell the difference between 4k and 1080P this format is proof electronic companies are running out of things to sell us. | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | 7100ES w/Oppo BDP-93??? | Hello again, I just wanted to revisit this subject again to discuss Dolby® Pro Logic® IIX Decoding. I'm very close to getting my HT system set up, my Oppo BDP-103, Projector Screen and Mount are enroute and should be here to weeks end. I'm curious about the quality and functionality of the DPLIIX decoder built into my 7100ES. Does it matrix 5.1 LPCM directly to 7.1 and maintain the sound quality of the LPCM mix? Or does it downmix it to the lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 and then Matrix it to 7.1? This of course would be very sad and would probably force me to get very little use out of my 7 .. | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | HDMI lead diiferences? | Thanks Maxx for the reply, if you think they're still top notch than thats good enough for me! | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | HDMI lead diiferences? | Hello again everyone and happy holidays! I was just wondering about some of my old PureAV Silver Series HDMI cables that I purchased back in 2006. Is it possible they were over built and meet current "High Speed" standard? I never gave it much thought before, but now I'm going to be running 3D, deep color, etc and was wondering if I should not plan to have those in the mix anymore. Any thoughts? Lyle | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | 7100ES w/Oppo BDP-93??? | Nice, thanks Maxx for taking a look. I've basically learned a few things about what I need to do for 7.1. My 7100 will matrix 5.1 LPCM to 7.1 to fill the rears, but the Oppo will not. So basically, if I'm listening to a 5.1 movie, I lose two channels with the Oppo and considering how few 7.1 movies are out there, that's not much play time for my rears. At any rate, I'm going to run HDMI audio as well as the 7.1 analog inputs. And depending on the soundtrack, be it, 5.1 or 7.1, I can toggle between the inputs to get the best possible experience. Fortunately, 95% of my movie w .. | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | 7100ES w/Oppo BDP-93??? | Thanks for the reply. There's not much info at all, I've read the manual cover to cover and the tech specs too and come up with about the same. However, I've read a few postings on other sites that claim 5.1 LPCM is its max capability. Also when I ran my 5.1 setup I'm convinced it did as well and I'm sure it even displayed it under stream info on my AVR. AND the only reference I can find to 7.1 audio decoding is speaking of dolby stuff and nothing about LPCM. | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | 7100ES w/Oppo BDP-93??? | Hey Maxx, its good to be back on and somewhat active. I'm sure I'll be around more so, that I'm in the process of building a bonified HT room. So anyway, I'm pretty sure my 7100 will accept 24/192khz over HDMI, regardless I'll be using my 9100ES via iLink for my primary music player. Now I have an additional question for the 7100ES savy types out there. Will the 7100 accept 7.1 LPCM at all, or only 5.1 LPCM??? I know for a fact that the Oppo will send full 7.1/96khz LPCM over HDMI for sure, but what's the 7100 going to do with it? Because if its only going to accept .. | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | 7100ES w/Oppo BDP-93??? | Hello all! Its been quite some time since I've been active on here. I pop in from time to time, but haven't done much with my HT system in years. Anyway its time to get back on the horse and I'm finally building an HT room. For those of you who don't know, I have a 7100ES Receiver and a 9100ES DVD/SACD Player. I have a full compliment of Sony K series speakers, including a set of 90ED’s for Mains, two sets of 30ED’s for Sides/Rears, a CNK10ED for my Center and two SAW-X700’s for Subwoofers. What I'm planning is a 7.1 system and am probably going with an Oppo BDP-93 as my Blu-ray .. | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | STR-DA7100ES and new HDMI board | I've just given up on the idea of my 7100ES ever handling all the video upgrades via HDMI. I will run the low quality stuff like DVD from my 9100ES and 1080i from my Cable DSTB. Otherwise I will just connect directly to my TV via HDMI and using either Toslink or 7.1 Analog for audio. I really can't stand all the changes they keep making to HDMI, ever since day one. Lyle | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Musical Fidelity V-Link Asynchronous 24/96 USB-S/P | Hey Maxx! I am really intrigued by this setup, but am curious about the sound quality from a computer. I mean its mostlikely going to be some form of MP3 format and what I would think would be a very stripped down version of what could be acheived using SACD or DVD Audio. If I read correctly, it sounds like 192kbps sounds better than SACD??? Thanks for the review. Lyle | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Best way of getting audio from an iPhone 4 into my | I have a Cambridge Audio iD10 dock connected to my 7100ES. Its a simple 3.5mm analog output and has an IR Remote, which I now control with my Harmony Remote and it works great. Sounds fine and it cost me about $80. They also have the iD50 which is more or less the same except with analog RCA outs and the addition of video. If you want to go crazy they also have the iD100 which works for the iPad and has an insane array of A/V outs, like Toslink and Coax Digital Outs, Balanced XLR and Component Video Output. Its $300 bucks but is probably worth it, with that array of features. .. | | Off-topic | The ultra-rich remain ultra-rich. | A very good friend of mine once told me that in most cases when we buy something we don't really need is to impress people we don't even like. So true, our real friends and family don't care what things we have, only that we are happy. The second point I wanted to make was that I read somewhere that if you make $60,000 USD or more per year, you are in the top 5% (yes five) of the richest people in the world. Well let me tell you, I make that, most of my friends make at least that and none of us feel rich. BUT in reality we do live extremely comfortably in comparison to the other .. | | Off-topic | Sony equipment used as props in movies | I remember seeing some Sony HT gear in the movie the The Holiday. It looked to be a reciever with similar design to the 7100ES. I thought this was cool, because the HT was part of a dream luxury HT system. Also, Neo had his Data stored on Minidisc in the movie the Matrix. (not exclusively Sony, but it wouldn't be without Sony) Lyle | | Off-topic | When Will 4K Become Available At Home? | Personally I see this being a LONG transition. The transition from VHS to DVD was relatively swift because the advantages of DVD over VHS were many. However Blu-ray has few advantages over DVD. It basically boils down to resolution alone. Not only that but it has more cons too. Long load times compared to DVD, cost and frequent firmware updates required. I think that people will focus on 3D rather than upgrading resolution. Especially since there is no hard media to support 4K resolution yet. Lyle | | Off-topic | "Not tonight, Dear. I have a headache." | I'm all for art, but this guy is a moron! As if he couldn't just wear a hat with a camera in it. He has to have one embedded in his flesh for the publicity. If your art alone isn't enough to sell your work and you need to reinforce it with self mutilation to draw attention to it, you are not a very good artist.
