You can have obsolete HDMI cables so, in that way, a cheap cable compliant with HDMI 1.4 will be far better than an expensive cable compliant with HDMI 1.2a. What good is an expensive cable if it eventually won't keep up with you owing to obsolescence? Just get as cheap a cable as you can buy of a length that you need that's compliant with the latest HDMI standard. | | Other (Tape, Short W... | Sony PS-X4 issues??? | I downloaded the service manual to this model. One possibility is that transistor Q215 may not be switching on like it's supposed to or Q206 may not be switching off. This would prevent IC1-1, on pin 3, from receiving the drive signal from these transistors. It's also possible that IC1-1 may be faulty, not providing drive to the motor from pin 1. It could also be bad electrolytic capacitors in the servo amp/PLL board that's keeping it from operating. It's all guesses unless someone can take a close look at the turntable and do some diagnostics. | | Other (Tape, Short W... | Sony PS-X4 issues??? | On 2013-01-12 06:02, Johnnycanso wrote: One of my PS-X4's has been having some glitches as of late. These were called "Extended Definition" because their maximum frequency response was around 70 kHz. They used rare earth magnets (neodymium) for the tweeters. They apparently are higher end Sony compact speakers and had a factory warranty to match (5 years, just like ES series equipment). The MSRP for the SS-LAC305ED center channel is around $180 according to AudioReview while each SS-LA300ED satellite was around $129 according to Crutchfie .. | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Sony STR-DE945 Sound problem | On 2003-09-01 19:56, ckaye1 wrote: I have a Sony STR-DE945 and, until recently, have had no problems with it. Currently, the unit experiences intermittent interruptions in sound. These interruptions can occur at anytime (from a few seconds after the unit is turned on, to several hours between interruptions, to no sound loss at all). It seems to occur when viewing DVD's and the interruptions can last from a few seconds to more than an hour. Many times the sound can be restored by simply touching the top or the receiver with a little pressure. Please help as this has me totally baffled. A DVP-S7700 is going to be around ten years old, and that's about the lifespan of a belt. As for players having problems with playing certain discs, you could attempt using the drive auto adjustment tool in the player's service menu. Now, be advised that the service menu was not intended to be accessed by regular users, only authorized service personnel. Also, if the optical pickup is too badly worn out, then performing an auto adjustment might not help .. | | Home Theater Gallery | Changed things around again... | On 2012-12-31 06:15, Maxxwire wrote: Reinhart- Is that a Sony PVM 2530 that you have? How did you ever manage to acquire it? I was very fortunate to get mine from a video processing studio that was closing. Sorry that it's taken a while to respond to your post. I had gotten my 2530 from a relatively local eBay sale for about $10. It was from a professional A/V supply company and they were trying to get rid of their surplus of these monitors. I had also bought a PVM-2950Q from them as well. Why 7700 over 7000? The DVP-S7000 could not read DTS encoded DVDs. I believe that the DVP-S7700 was Sony's first DTS enabled unit. The DVP-S7000 had better video performance. It could pass blacker-than-black video and it did not have the chroma upsampling bug. | | DVD | DVP-S7000/7700 What's your pick & why? | Advantages to the DVP-S7000. 1. Can pass blacker than black. 2. Does not have the chroma upsampling bug. 3. Servicing the disc drive is easier due to better accessibility. Advantages to the DVP-S7700 1. Supports DTS DVDs. 2. Built on a copper chassis. Advantages to both over lesser DVD players: 1. Gibraltar anti-resonance material used on the chassis and disc drive tray. 2. Dual power supplies with linear supply for the analog output employing an R-core transformer. 3.
