But I still have a lot left if anyone is interested. | | Great Sony Deals | Great Deals on AR cables | I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I came across a great deal on mostly Acoustic Research Master Series home theater cables. The only catch was I had to buy in bulk. And now that my system is complete, I've ended up with a lot, and I mean a lot of cables I did not need, they are all still brand new in their original packaging. I was wondering if anyone here would like my extras. I have s-video, optical, digital coax, composite video cables all from AR's Master series. I also have HDMI, HDMI to DVI cables from samsung, and phillips. If this isn't allowed, or is in t .. | | Home Theater Gallery | Chanskys Setup from New Zealand | I loved how you've installed banana plugs into a wall outlet. When my parents were building this house, I ran coax cable, and cat5 in the wall throughout the house so that every room would have a jack for cable, one for cat5, and one for security cam veiwing. I'm still kicking myself for not running some 12 or 16 guage speaker wires in there as well. What guage wiring did you use in the walls? Once you go in wall wiring, thats how you'll always want it. Unfortunately for me I had a run in with time warner recently. Whom swore after a call a day from me for 3 weeks, and 3 tech .. | | Television Configura... | side black bars | I have a sony lcd so my tv is immune to burn in. But I dislike the bars as well, especially when they're grey, and I like to make use of all my screen real estate. What I tend to do when viewing 4:3 material is run the picture in "ZOOM" mode, the whole screen fills up, and only a little is cut out from the top and the bottom. Usually the only things cut out are sub titles, or stats/scores on sports viewings. On prime time TV shows, you won't miss whats cut out. | | Getting Started/Buil... | Looking for Sony speakers et al to combine best of | Maybe its just me, but I seem to prefer my home setup to an actual theater setting. Theaters to me seem like they exagerate effects, and depending on what seats you get, the surrounds will make or break the experience. Not to mention holding it in till the end of the movie in fear of missing anything important sucks. Also as other's mentioned brand loyalty may not give you the best bang for buck, or even the best performance. I went with an energy take 5.2 system because reviews stated it was equally adept at both music, and movies, although obviously far from .. | | Getting Started/Buil... | Question regarding using speaker wires of diff bra | I originally got 100 feet of acourstic research 16 guage speaker wire for my HT. But at the end it seemed I was about 8 feet short. So since I was in a hurry to hook things up, I ran to circuit city and all they had was Monster 16 guage speaker wires, so I bought that. So right now all my speakers are using the AR, except for my right rear which is using the Monster. Will this effect performance? Should I try to find the same AR wires I had on the rest of the system? Also why does AR 16 guage seem so much thicker than the monster 16 guage? In fact the AR is nearly the thickne .. | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | DVI cable quality | HDMI is basically a DVI cable that also transmits audio. Video quality wise there should be no difference between the two, its just so you can have one less connection. In my experience, there is little to no image quality improvement going from component to dvi. But I've only tried on my Toshiba 51HX83 rptv. My sony kdf42we655 only has a HDMI input and no DVI, and I don't have any HDMI components, so I've never tried. But I doubt there be a noticeable improvement in video quality. | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | PC connections for Home Theater | What sound card, and video card are you using? ATI makes dvi to component converters for their cards. If your TV has a dvi input you won't even need that. NVIDIA soundstorm is a great sound chipset to use for media pcs, as it can do real time DD encoding. There are a couple other cards out there that can as well I'm sure. As for me, I got around with a much cheaper solution than a dedicated media pc. I use a mod chipped xbox, with xbox media center, since the xbox uses the nvidia soundstorm chipset, and can encode DD in real time. With a 250gb hard drive put into my xbox. I can ftp fi .. | | Amp/Receiver/Speaker... | Why do other site's SLAM Sony so bad? | Maybe its similiar to the BOSE syndrone on the internet. Bose makes decent products but charge very undecent prices. Just about everywhere you go, sony products in the same class cost more than products from competitors. The only sony products we use in my household are there because we got insanely good deals on them. But when it comes to sony, insanely good deal = same price/barely better price than competitors. One of my dad's biggest job responsibility for his job is to convince would be agents, they can make large salaries working for him, then training them, and advisin .. | | Great Sony Deals | Tons of HT equipment from a seller on eBay | Last xmas the circuit city by my house got hit on xmas eve. The thieves made off with over 30 laptops, and about just as many ipods. According to security footage they were in and out in 3 minutes flat, and as far as I know, they still haven't been caught. | | Great Sony Deals | New XS series 55" lcd...what do you guys think? | My dad got our 42 inch wega lcd for $1800, which was supposed to be near wholesale pricing, since his friend owned the shop. A 55 inch, higher end model than my 42inch, for $2900 I think its a great deal. We would've preferred a 50+ as well, but the cabinet my dad had custom made wouldn't hold the 50 inch lcd. Unless you want to hold off for 1080p TVs, the sony would be a smart buy. | | Instruction and Serv... | Need help with sony RM-TP504 | Remote central also had this same version. I ended up using the learning fucntion and just had the remote learn every button I use frequently on my reciever, and xbox remotes. I'd really wish the learning features didn't force me to use the user learning buttons though. Having 8 buttons per page is restrictive. My RM-AV2100 allowed me to use learned functions on button layouts for all the other components. So I can have numbers and arrows, not just 8 buttons a page, wehre i name then up down left and right. This is a really nice looking remote. But I've had better ex .. | | Instruction and Serv... | Need help with sony RM-TP504 | This is the same one I found on google, it didn't go into any detail as to how to setup it up to get it working with my reciever, which is made by pioneer. My TV worked great however right after I disabled the feature to search for a connection upon being turned on. But my tv is made by sony. I've been trying, and just haven't been able to get this thing to work satisfactory with my equipment. | | Instruction and Serv... | Need help with sony RM-TP504 | I got this off a friend who no longer had the manual. It's in excellent condition, but I can't figure out how to get it to work with anything other than my KDF 42WE655 TV. The manual I found on google is extremely skimp. Much less imformative than the manual for my RM-AV2100. At the very least, I'd like the remote to work with my Pioneer VSX D711 reciever. And maybe create a learned control set for use with my xbox dvd remote, since I use my xbox as a media server. | | »» Visit Forums | »» Search All Forum posting by Oliver_Kuo |
