Amp/Receiver/Speaker...New Sony ES speakers! These speakers have actually been out for a couple years in Japan and have been quite well reviewed. There are normal versions and "piano gloss' versions available (with a 'pe' in the model name). The thing that surprises me is how much Sony has decided to charge for them in the international market. Here in Japan you can get a pair of the floor standers in matte finish for around $3000 USD, and the gloss finish ones for $4000 USD. You can see street prices for all of them here: http://kakaku.com/kaden/speaker/itemlist.aspx?pdf_ma=76&pdf_kw=ss-na [ This message was e ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...ULTRA ULTRA RARE SCD-DR1Got curious and tried to figure out what all those transformers do. They don't explain all of em, but it looks like both 02 units have dedicated trannies for their clock circuits! Crazy indeed. Internal pics here! http://www.esoteric.jp/technology/p02d02system/indexe.html
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...ULTRA ULTRA RARE SCD-DR1It seems to be popular to add more transformers these days. The Esoteric K-01 SACD player has four toroidal transformers! One for the transport, one for the digital circuitry and one for each of the left and right analogue channels. Even crazier, their latest 02 separates have four trannies per box...four in the transport and four in the DAC. I can't even think of four things you need power for in a transport
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Merry ChristmasMerry Christmas from Japan! Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. Hard to find a good tree around here, but can't beat the stand
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...TA-ER1 Unboxing The attenuator is an ALPS RK50, you can buy them easily but the prices are abit of a fright. I've seen copper put on caps before, I can't figure out what that all about. The cans for the capacitors in the TA-NR10 were copper plated then coated with rubber. I can understand the robber coating the stop resonance, I can't understand copper foil or plating being used. Does anyone remember the Panasonic TA-KEH II series of capacitors? They had bamboo fibres and a coil of enamled thick copper wire with very slim copper 'coins' on the top. They were then sealed with thick heatshrink. Intere ..

They look great stacked together like that. I hadn't noticed that auction you linked...don't see one of those too often! Too expensive though, and probably impossible to find the CDP to go with it!

I showed this posting to a couple of co-workers.  They never knew that Sony ever made any gear of this caliber. Hi David, Nice to see a fellow Canadian on the forum! Glad you liked the pictures. It's a shame that Sony didn't market their high end gear better...if they had ..

I'm not using my ESPRIT's right now, they are awaiting a budget for a full overhaul, but are fully functional. Just want them to be in new condition before possibly destroying these rarities. They are almost 30 years old, after all. Sure sound good though, driving some APM-77's! (still need to get those APM-4's sometime that I know sitting in a shop somewhere). My main system is a PS-X800/SCD-555ES/CDP-X777ES/TA-E88B/TA-N7B/SS-G333ES which have all been overhauled. I've seen a CDP-R3 for sale on yahoo JP not that long ago ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...TA-ER1 UnboxingHi  Stoffie, Yeah, I'd love to pick up a CDP-R1/DAC-R1. I'm running out of space though, so don't know where I'd put them! CDP-R3 might be the way to go. They come up for sale every couple weeks, but still go for $500 or so and not sure how much longer the lasers will last. I also have a feeling they wouldn't be any better than the TEAC I have now, but it sure would be cool to complete the set :-) Looks like you have a pretty impressive Sony collection yourself! Those Esprit units are beautiful. You know a TA-E900 just sold for >$4000 USD on Yahoo Auctions this past weekend... ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...TA-ER1 UnboxingHi guys, thanks for the replies! Morksbeanbag, I'll post up some more pictures shortly. I couldn't resist poping the tops off, so I have some shots of the insides as well...they're just as beautiful as the outside! I don't have any of the bottoms yet, but they seem to made of some kind of resin (G-Base?) with square ventilation holes in them. You can see the reflection on the table in the last shot above. I noticed you have Yamaha NS-1000M speakers...how do you like em? Maxx, here's the rest of my system: CDP: Teac VRDS-15, self-modded with case dampening and internal shiel ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...TA-ER1 UnboxingHi Guys, I recently managed to pick up a Sony TA-ER1 ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Writing magazine article on TA-N88B, and seeking iI know there are some Sony Esprit owners active in the Vintage Solid State forum over on AudioKarma. If you can't find anyone here they may be able to help you out.
