After switching my Sony 7700 to 16:9 mode the Auto featured was working right before my eyes I did not have this work before. The geometry test and movie test both passed with flying colors. I guess my 40xbr800 is a true 16:9 TV when watching anamorphic DVD movies that was one of the main reasons for me buying it as plus the excellent picture it displays. Thanks again From Northern Canada Conrad | | Television Misc and ... | What Viewing Mode On or Auto for Sony 40 XBR800? | Hi I did try the circular geometry test using the Ultimate Platium DVD disc. The results were as follows in either selecting my TV as 4:3, Letterbox, or Widescreen 16:9. A switch from Auto to On caused the circle to become oval in all 3 modes. I am not sure if this setup disc is an anamorphic DVD or not, or if this even makes a difference or not. Now if this is the case how can the following be true Kranston? "AUTO and ON should have the same effect with the vertical compression feature. They are not different in what they do, just how they are executed " An .. | | Television Misc and ... | What Viewing Mode On or Auto for Sony 40 XBR800? | Yes Exsilio, that is exactly why I was concerned about this feature. I was thinking that the movies just seem to compressed vertically in this mode, especially with the 2:35 or 2:55 ratios movies. I have thought to myself, for a 40 inch TV the viewing area is quite small in this mode. It however seems quite odd that it lets me do this so easily. In the manual its states On " To activate manually. Returns to Auto when you switch to another video input or change channels. Auto "To activate automatically when a 16:9 signal is recieved "If the Auto setting .. | | Television Misc and ... | What Viewing Mode On or Auto for Sony 40 XBR800? | Hi I have owned my 40 XBR for approx. 2 months now and have watched many DVD's. What I am wondering is what mode or setting do the other 40XBR800 owners prefer to watch their anamorphic DVD'S in. The options in settings are ON or Auto. I find myself swtiching mostly to the ON settings hence in the 16x9 mode. I do this because I have heard that this is the best possible quality picture do watch your movies in. Because the movie is only scanned within the picture. IS this true or not? I have tested the Auto mode and I noticed the picture is still 16x9 but approx 25% bigger. .. | | Television Configura... | Quality of Sony KV40 XBR700? | I am curious if any one can give my some information on how great the picture qualtiy on cable and DVD is? Has anyone seen one yet in Canada or any where else yet. Any information on this set greatly appreciated, as I would love to hear about it before I spend all my hard earned $$$$ on it. Is this TV worth the monies? Is it the exact same TV as XBR450 but bigger? | | »» Visit Forums | »» Search All Forum posting by Conrad |
