| Amp/Receiver/Speakers/Connections/Cables | The Monster and The Beast | Mrman | 44 | 2013-06-04 06:21 |
| First 650 characters of this post | Sorry guys, I saw the need for a change. The Beast is still alive at my brother in law and performing well, the player and the amp is for sale in DK. The reason was, that I came to a point where I missed some options in the setup: No BluRay player, no HDMI connectors in amp, the possibility of using Netflix and the wish for amping all 5 channels instead of only the 2 frontspeakers via the Beast. Finally I wanted to connect a NAS to the system, supporting wireless accesspoint for all devices in the house. All this was done - after som weeks of research - with a player, p |
| Amp/Receiver/Speakers/Connections/Cables | Sony STR-DB830 Blinking Protector - Main Board Problem | jehill | 13 | 2013-04-02 00:06 |
| First 650 characters of this post | Welcome to Agoraquest! I am looking at the exploded view of the chassis in the service manual and all that I see attached to the heat sink is the output transistors on the main board and the rear-amp board. I do not see any resistors attached. What is the part number 1-673-340-11 for? I couldn\'t locate it in the service manual. Can you tell be the resistor numbers (RXXX)? Also, it would be nice to know the number of the f |
| Amp/Receiver/Speakers/Connections/Cables | Sony STR-DA333ES in Protect mode displaying ............ | Binkman | 2 | 2013-01-27 21:11 |
| First 650 characters of this post | Well an update for those interested. After reading a great deal on the STR-xxxxES series (and quite a few other sony models) receivers, they are very prone to over heating, "protection/protector" error displays due to IMO poor soldering, grounding and redundant protection. (not to mention they don't travel well in shipping.)Since my last post I've stripped the unit down. My next attack is taking it down again after reading up on grounding all the boards and checking all the traces on the remote I/O boards. Summary is I couldn't get the main power to kick in on |
| Amp/Receiver/Speakers/Connections/Cables | Are Sony releasing their new ES speaker line internationally? | mykyll2727 | 11 | 2012-10-08 13:40 |

One worrying thing I've noticed is the maximum power handling capabilities. The massive NA2ES tower and NA8ES centre can only handle 100 watts maximum and the NA5ES bookshelf a mere 70 maximum. The subwoofer, however, is rated at an impressive 500 watts. Is this some sort of mistake? These speakers aren't very efficient (88-90db) and with that kind of power handling they will never reach anywhere near referen |

| First 650 characters of this post | I checked the picture again, but this normally cures the problem.Another possibility is a defective Multi Sound Processor MSP3xxxx, or a defective main system controller which keeps the MSP-RST (reset) line low. In this case there is no datacommunication with the MSP too, resulting in the symptom you have. Are you able to take some voltage readings with a multimeter or an oscilloscope? |

| First 650 characters of this post | thank you for the details - I have ordered a replacement board so let's hope the new ones works.the 1-xxx and A-xxx numbers were matching completely so the board I ordered was for exact same model/version I was not aware of any firmware/software changes that might be required when replacing a board so this is new to me - reading other discussion for same/similar TV I understood that just swapping the board should be fine no other changes needed I also have a service manul for my TV but I didn't find it much helpful. It is optimised for music, including surround music. Consequently it is very good for 2 channel music as well. The rear speakers are not in the best 7.1 movie surround position (they are all floorstanders, including center speaker) but still do a great job with movies. I agree that a good system can reproduce both music and movies well. I suspect a system optimised for music copes with movies very well too. A system optimised fo |

| Amp/Receiver/Speakers/Connections/Cables | What to do? (Speaker query) | mykyll2727 | 63 | 2012-04-13 22:52 |
| First 650 characters of this post | RideThe SolarWinds_Welcome to Agoraquest!! The Sony SS-XxxED series of speakers are among the best that Sony has ever made in their range. Your total price is much less than they sold for new. IIRC that's around what the SS-X90EDs sold for new and as you said they are very rare and almost impossible to find. Whether or not they're worth their asking price depends solely on you. You should consider that they are all 4Ohm speakers which will be quite a load for most AV receivers. Your other set of Sony speakers are a much easier 8Ohm load. Your 5700ES is perhaps the most powerful rec |
