| First 650 characters of this post | Going to hook up my new BDPS5000ES tonight, anyone know what would be go settings for me. The coax out will be going into my ps audio digital linkiii dac. I will be using hdmi to my 50\"pioneer elite pro 101fd monitor. It is strictly a two channel system, so i guess, what should be the proper audio settings inside the bluray menu. Any help would be great, It looks like a great well built player. Thank You in advance...

| First 650 characters of this post | The take away answer is that HDMI 1.3 compliance does NOT mean the manufacturer has implemented Audio Rate Control (ARC). ARC is simply an optional feature available in HDMI 1.3a specification. It is thought that Sony's HATS and Pioneer's PQLS are the same as ARC. But neither Sony or Pioneer have said such. If HATS and PQLS were a proprietary feature using the HDMI interface exclusively to implement them than Sony and Pioneer could not technically use the name "HDMI" to describe the interface. Therefor it follows that HATS and PQLS are in fact HDMI |

| First 650 characters of this post | Maxx , I have the bdp2000es BD player and the ps audio digital linkiii DAC hooked up two my two channel classe system. I was wondering if there would be any advantages upgrading the BD player to the bdps5000es. I am not really concerned about the audio side because of the dac, but what about the video side hooked up to my 50"pioneer pro101 elite monitor. Do you think it would be worth it, it looks like a nice piece. I think the load time is alot faster on the new one, but if the audio and video is that much better all around i might think about it. I have now tried Arcam P7, Bryston 3B and Parasound 2205A power amplifiers in my system. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages, but the Sony stands toe-to-toe with all of them. I think the benefit over the 7100 may be with the bigger power supply in the 9000 - it feels inexhaustable in comparison. 32 bit processing is no advantage to anyone, as no hifi system can yet resolve more than 19 to 20 |

The receiver is outstanding. |

| First 650 characters of this post | When I researched the Onkyo 906, the recommended impedance was 8 ohms, switchable to 6 ohms. I believe most of the Onkyo models are recommended at 8 ohms as well. Most of the THX Ultra 2 Plus models (800 series and above) are rated for 4 ohm loads as well.Andrew- I'm not totally surprised you didn't stick it through with the Denon 1910. You didn't sound that happy with it. However, now that you're going to the world of separates, you will constantly face "upgraditis". That's when your home theater budget will grow! S |

| First 650 characters of this post | First off, Sony's prices are pretty similar (if not overpriced) to Onkyo. Onkyo's flagship receiver is $2,300; compared to Sony's $2,500 model. You should know that Onkyo is considered the "best bang for your buck" in terms of price-to-features ratio. Features like THX Ultra 2 Plus, HD Radio, ISF calibration, and network connectivity are usually found on competing AVRs, like Denon and Pioneer, might be double their cost (with the exception that ISF is only found on Onkyo). I almost recently purchased the Onkyo TX-906 AVR for its toroidal amplifier wh |

| First 650 characters of this post | Mav,I am waiting for the S560 to come out this August. I too have an older AVR, a Pioneer Elite, which has been in service for over 5 years. It still processes audio soundtracks quite well, if not better than a lot of newer AVRs. Since it has the ability to use external amps and 7.1 multichannel analog, I don\'t see the point of replacing it just yet, especially with the upcoming HDMI 1.4 spec. My price point is $250 for the BD player...if I can get the S550 for that price, I would happily consider that unit as well. |

| First 650 characters of this post | I completely understand why you went with the Panny plasma over the LCD. I was at a mega electronics store last Christmas, which had about 300 displays, which is when I first spotted the 800U. OMG! I would take that TV over anything else I saw in the store. In my opinion, it even compared to the coveted Pioneer Elite plasmas which cost at least double. My goal is to upgrade my older Samsung 42\" plasma to either the Panny 50-54\" by the end of the year. |

| First 650 characters of this post | Hi Nick, I have to admit that I'm very surprised at how well full-range equalization has come in regard to automatics systems like Audyssey and MCACC. I remember once spending the day manually calibrating my friend's Denon AVR-5803 (a cost of over $4,000 back in May 2002). The equalization menu was extremely ancient, as apparently there was no such calibration tool as Audyssey and MCACC incorporated by Denon at the time. We wound up using the analog Rat Shack SPL for all tuning. A couple years later, I upgraded my AVR to a Pio Elite that |

I recently purchased a really nice fully passive preamp. I have apogee ribbon speakers, biamped, active crossover, etc. and I have determined that I have enough output from my line devices (CD player, DAC, turntable preamp) and enough power amp to be able to do this well. Why have a preamp, especially if you are going to run it in tone defeat any |

However I think it is time to upgrade. I want to buy something reasonably priced, I found a Pioneer Elite VSX54tx and a DA4ES for $300 and wanted to know how these compare to my DA50ES. I love the sound of my analog Sony. It is rated at 120 WPC 20Hz-20Khz at .05 THD if I'm not mistaken. I am looking for something a bit newer with better sound quality, but if the difference is not going to be noticeable, I'll stick w |

| First 650 characters of this post | Problem solved guys, I went with the Pioneer Elite SC-07. I will be installing it this week. The ICE amps should be killer in my setup, even though Im only running my rears off the AVR. I have outlaw monos and Dsonic Iceamps running everything else. From what I read this AVR should dominate the 7100es. I have done some listening and can tell you the Elite has clarity and detail the Sony cant match. I\'ll be moving the Sony in my living room setup. |

Perhaps some competition is what Sony needs to get off their butt and start producing some high-end equipment, along with the mass market equipment. http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/07/pioneer-reveals-2008-elite-av-receiver-family/ |
