| First 650 characters of this post | HiI have owned a DAV-S550 since 2002 and it worked perfectly well until a couple of months ago. Now, when I try and play a DVD, it sticks, jumps and skips rendering it useless. It still plays music CD's as good as it ever did. I have tried using a lens cleaner, and that hasn't worked. I have opened up the case thinking that there might be dust inside, but it was totally pristine. Is there anything (cheap/free) I can do, or is just old and would cost more to fix than it's worth? Many thanks for readingLee |

| First 650 characters of this post | Hi there, I know the DAV S550 is quite old but this problem should be common. I am connecting the DAV S550 to a Matsui TV using a super video to Scart lead. It's a good quality cable. The problem is that the picture that comes through is black and white and poor quality. Why is this and how can I get a good picture quality on the TV from the system? This the first time that I have connected the DAV S550 to a TV as I used to use a projector. Can anyone help? |

| First 650 characters of this post | SoundMonkey- From the description of the Sony DAV-C900 it sounds like you have everything except the HCD 900 Integrated Amp and the RS550 Rear speakers, but it looks like they are interchangable with the TS550 front speakers you have.
There are any number of Sony Receivers that might work since the HCD-C900 which contains all of the electronics is only rated at 31.3 watts per channel into 8 ohms and shouldn\'t be that difficult to find an adequate replacement for it.

I\'ve been promoting the use of Glass Toslink here at Agoraquest since September of 2002 and there has always been a vendor around with a cheaper price, but I have been recommending Stuart as a vendor for the last 3 years because he has earned a rock solid track record for great service and 100% customer satisfaction from all of the Agoraquest Members he has supplied Glass Toslink to and I don\'t want to have to be concerned with going bac |

| Amp/Receiver/Speakers/Connections/Cables | DAV-s550 upgrade to DAV-s888 - Help | clangstone | 2 | 2006-08-30 09:42 |
| First 650 characters of this post | Having had a DAV-s550 for about 4 years, it recently gave up reading DVD\'s. So I swapped the main Amp unit for a DAV-s888 unit expecting it to be a straight swap. However, on the DAV-s888 unit the subwoofer is an active unit rather than the passive unit on the DAV-s550. Does anyone have a suggestion as to an economic solution to overcoming this difference. Ideally I\'d like the matching Sony subwoofer but if not, could I attach an alternative make. Also, what type of connecting cable to I need to go into the back of the DAV-s888 Amp unit. Any help would be much appreciated. |

| DVD | "Can't play disc" problem | tester23401 | 6 | 2005-12-15 22:25 |
| First 650 characters of this post | Hello,
I have an about 2-year old Sony DAV-S550 and while I was watching a DVD today it freezes suddenly and was unable to continue playing anymore. I ejected the disc and inserted it again but the player keeps displaying \"Reading\" and after a while it shows \"Can\'t play disc.\" I tried a few other DVDs but the same problem occurs. The discs I have tried worked fine on my computer\'s DVD-ROM.
Does anyone knows what is the problem and how can I solve it?
Thanks.
