| First 650 characters of this post | Awesome! How did you come by this collection?
That K950ES is a TOTL cassette deck. It has a discrete MOSFET output section similar to the X7 series CD players. |
| Amp/Receiver/Speakers/Connections/Cables | DAS-703ES DAC is in the house! | mhedges | 31 | 2012-12-26 22:27 |
| First 650 characters of this post | So I just took delivery of a Sony DAS-703ES DAC, thanks to a wanted ad on another forum. This is a very rare piece. It was the first consumer DAC sold in the US. Retail was $1800 in 1986.There isn't alot of info available on it but it seems to be well thought of. It was a no-corners-cut piece, and a lot of the stuff in it went into the DAS-R1. Some sources say that it even exceeded the DAS-R1 in terms of spare-no-expense detail. It uses the Burr-Brown PCM53JP DAC, which doesn't quite have the cult following of the TD |

I have a question that you may have an answer for. Upon opening the 6800 I noticed it uses Sony power pack output modules instead of discrete output transistors. I does sound good for sure. Yet photos of the 7800 reveal discrete output transistors. Is any of these Vfet or the next generation of Vfet design? |
| Amp/Receiver/Speakers/Connections/Cables | STR-DA5200ES PS3 Slim LPCM over HDMI LFE Work Around | tisme | 6 | 2012-12-10 03:12 |
| First 650 characters of this post | Hi All,Since I just recently repaired my 5200ES and shared my results with doing a DYI repair here, I also had a look around for a solution to a problem that's been perplexing me since I got the 5200 when they first came out... The inconsistent LFE/Sub levels between differing sources...I only just discovered the HDMI LFE BUG in the DA5200ES which has been VERY annoying for a long time now, requiring me to constantly pause the disc, bring up onscreen and fiddle with sub levels... Now it all makes sense to me thanks to this marvellous f |

| First 650 characters of this post | Concerning the production run of the US-only export model Sony STR GX-10ES The Vintage Knob has this to say..."As usual, Sony kept very discrete about this "last stand for quality" receiver. The production run is supposed to have been set at 2000 units but one recently resurfaced with a #802 005 serial number 2005) and another with a #202 265 (2011) - very rare nevertheless." |

| First 650 characters of this post | Maverick- I found some information about the "Precision Clock Conditioner" that Sony implemented in the BDP S5000...Audio Technology in DetailIn an HDMI transmission, the audio data stream travels within a TMDS signal (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling), which runs at a very high clock frequency. Since the audio clock frequency derives from splitting the picture's pixel clock frequency, inaccurate HDMI data (HDMI clock jitt |

| First 650 characters of this post | The 5800ES is looking like quite a nice receiver indeed, there are some significant upgrades over the 5700ES. True discrete 9 channel amplification , 4k upscaling (for the future) and an extra USB input on the rear sound the most appealing to me. It's also got a bit more power under the hood backed up by 500 watts(!) of power consumption when in use.If I did |

| First 650 characters of this post | Late in 2002 I sidelined the DB 930 in favor of Vacuum Tube separates in an attempt to flesh out more resolution from the Audio System's new 5 ps jitter i2s Bus Digital front end. This plan worked progressively better and better for 8 years running as the Conrad-Johnson Vacuum Tube Power Amp and Counterpoint Tube-FET Preamp with their respective contingents of rare 40-50 year old high quality vintage Vacuum Tubes amplifying the the modified Theta DAC's rendering of the ultra low jitter .99999 fine silver i2s interfaced 24 bit capable Digital processors with their pure silver wired outboard 3 A |
| Amp/Receiver/Speakers/Connections/Cables | Sony STR-DA5700ES A/V Receiver Review | mykyll2727 | 152 | 2012-07-18 13:56 |
| First 650 characters of this post | Very true! I don't know of a movie audio format designed for more than 7.1 and those are on BR. There may be but I've never heard of it. Because of that I too doubt the sound engineers are making anything specifically for the higher number of speaker setups. At one point I was making use of my DA9000ES' 9.1 setup. I had it setup where I was using the the longer 25' walls of my room as side walls. At that I found the extra side surrounds of the 9.1 setup to be an extravagance really. IMO you would need some really long walls before it became a serious improvement. And si |
