Weakness I HAVE SEVERE SERVICE CONCERNS AFTER OWNING IT FOR LESS THAN A YEAR.
A tiny fan way inside its light engine started to collect dirt on its blades and needed to be replaced. If I was not under warranty it would have cost me over $450 for the service call and another $50 for the part. Service people tell me this highly unusual miniature squirrel cage fan will likely go out again and again since there is no way to shield it from collecting dirt, or clean it without disassembling half the TV.
Ok so what; just buy an extended warranty you say... Yea right.
Did you know that SONY EXPECTS THESE SETS TO FALL APART AFTER 5 YEARS OF USE????
Yup, they will not renew extended service plans on these TVs after the 5th year, so after that when they break you gota cough up whatever it takes to fix them or throw them away. For me that could mean spending $500 a year to keep mine running.
Comments/Review These TVs like most look great in the showroom and I thought I was investing in a TV that would give my family at least 20 years of viewing pleasure.
I am extremely disappointed to learn that Sony's big screen TV line is so mechanically unstable that they don't even expect it to last 6 years without yearly investments that could pay for a new one in 4 years.
And that is exactly what I think they want you to do. Buy one thinking it will be as reliable as you old TV and then when it starts to fall apart in 6 years, buy another one to replace it because that is cheaper than keeping the old one running.
These are not computers that become outdated trash in 5 years, they are family entertainment centers that should last for over 20 years like the TVs they replaced.
