I've posted this question in the TV Calibration forum as well, I'm posting it here because it's relevant. My TV is a Sony Wega KV-29FX30.
When I turn the PS2 on the TV automatically switches to AV1 (I have a RGB SCART connection) but it also switches to 16:9 mode. This happens with the translucent Blaze gold-plated cable (don't remember the name) but it doesn't happen with the original Sony RGB SCART cable. I use the Blaze because it also has RCA audio leads which I connect to my stereo.
Is it possible to disable the automatic switch via the TV's service menu somehow? I know how to access the service menu but not where to look for this (though I suppose it's in the "Design" menu somewhere).
If anyone has extensive knowledge of my TV's service mode or know where I can get info on it, please let me know! Except for the aforementioned problem I am also interested in geometry settings in particular.

I cannot help you yet, but it almost sounds like a bug. I wish my tv would automatically switch to an input and enable 16:9 mode for my dvd player!!

This has happened to me whatever TV I use and whatever cable I use! I thought it was just part of the PS2's switching to RGB mode? If there are any solutions please let me know!

In my knowledge the cable that comes with the PS2 (at least here in europe) is not RGB, but regular scart (dont remember what it's called)
When you say original sony RGB, are you then sure it's RGB? On my TV (KV32FQ86) it shows three dots under the scart number when it's RGB. ----------------- By the time you read this, you've already read it.
