     Sony Bravia LCD KLV-V40A10

    Need help with TV. Turns off after 5 mins and then the POWER INDICATOR (NOT STANDBY) FLASHES and Clicks. I can only turn the TV off at the wall and not via the remote or the TV unit itself !

    Any ideas?

    Repair/Service Manual.  I'm in Australia

     You can start to take a measurement of the +5VSTDBY voltage on the power board.
    This voltage must always be present as long as the set is plugged in.

    If it fails, there will be a defective diode in the standby PSU.

     If you are not able to take a voltage measurement, I think the best thing you can do is to consult an experienced TV-technician instead of trying to repair it by yourself.

     I see. Just by the time I get one.....that $200 bucks then for repairs if repairable....then maybe a couple more bucks...I could get another for $600!

     Really SONY LCD TV is in a great demand and become very popular now. Before buying must sure that it has the minimum features like:

     Hey guys.

    First off sorry for bringing up an old post, but old mate ↑ did a good job of that, so what the heck right.

    Second, Mophead how did things go for you, did you get it fixed or did you get a new one?

    I am having a similar problem with mine, only there is no 5 mins for me. As soon as I turn the power on from the wall (Mains power), there is flashing and clicking, however there seems to be no code with the flashes. it is just constant flashing (I even timed them).

    I think that it should be a stand-by problem as I don't even try to turn the power on from the TV.

    I would gladly test the +5VSTDBY, however I can't seem to find a schematic for this model.

    Can anyone help me out please

     I think that a diode around the standby transformer is the problem. Sometimes they are completely shortened, but also they are leaking a very small current.

    Best thing to do is to replace both diodes D6903 and D6905. It's type is 10ERB20-TB3, but any 200V / 1A / fast recovery diode will do. If a diode is completely shortened, the 10 Ohms resistor R6304 or -5 will also be burned.

    Fast recovery diodes are capable to handle the high frequency a switch mode power supply operates on.
