After months of research we finally bought a Sony 52" XBR9. The picture is amazing. At first the wife thought it was to big but know I have a hard time getting her away from it. I do have a question though. When the cable company brought the cable box so I could receive the Hi-Def channels it was the older model that does not use a HDMI cable but instead has a cable with about 5 different plug ins on each end. Would a newer model of cable box that uses a HDMI cable produce a better picture? I don't see how the picture could get better but if it can then that is what I want. Thanks, Wornslick

It depends.
If you have good quality analog component cables and the TV allows HD with them then an HDMI cable will not be any better.
Have fun!

I guess the TV is allowing HD, the little amber light comes on when we watch HD channels.

Try switching to a non HD channel and see if there is a drastic difference in video quality.
If not, you're not seeing high definition and might need an HDMI cable. If I remember correctly my Sharp 32" needed an HDMI cable to view 720p or higher With my component cables I could only get 480p.
Also check your TV manual about that just in case.

Yes there is, I can see a big difference between HD and non-HD.

Ok then great! You don't have to buy an HDMI cable.

I would insist that the cable company provide an HD box that has an HDMI output and use an HDMI cable. The box has to be quite old not to have an HDMI output. To the best of my knowledge, all HD DVR boxes available today have an HDMI output. You might consider upgrading to an HD DVR.

Local Channels can be FANTASTIC with Aerial Antennae, PLUS you get SPORTS between 6 seconds and 2 minutes before your Cable/SAT friends!
Don't CALL them and say, "DID YOU THAT!"
SEAL those coax ends - water will cause digital loss inside the coaxial cable. TURN the last 6 inches down to prevent the run. And seal with rubber cups. AND tape or liquid seal.

I also purchased the 52" XBR9. Connedted everything with HDMI cabels. I even connected this TV to my router and can download the net flix moves widgets to my TV and watch them there. Picture quality and technology of this TV are unreal.

Yes the picture is beautiful. Is the router hard to hook up?
