Just a note about SM links like:
docs.sony.com/release/SMD/989070311_SM.pdf
Sony has disabled access to these since the last week of July
This kind of link is used when manuals are downloaded via Sony reference library (which claudio can access) and Sony hasn't re-enabled them so far.

When the links like docs.sony.com/release/SMD/989070311_SM.pdf were working, I could access more recent manuals-but no longer can.

Sony hasn't disabled access to links that begin with "docs.sony.com/release/ESI"
However, I couldn't find a way to get service manuals using docs.sony.com/release/ESI type links.

Lets put that to the test. The part number for the KDL-55XBR8 is 988380302. Substituting 98838030.2 for 99877410.1 we get:

Add once again, we get the 404 error. However, I just checked and the actual KDL-55XBR8 service manual file is 988380302_sm.pdf. Substituting 988380302_sm.pdf for 98838030.2/manual.pdf we get:

And it still doesn't work. The problem is that the old method of downloading a service manual by selecting the "Save Target As..." Windows option is no longer supported. That method showed the path. The only options now available are "Open" and "Save". Neither of these options shows the complete path.

Hi ALL
i know how to download the newer SM as well as the bulletins,
I had a custom made html page that was working just as if i was logged in.
however they have deleted or are updating the web site..cause now the search feature just says file not found error..
Anyway i can still download the SM's as long as you know ahead of time what manual you need.
the old method of downloading SM's is still working but has only those docs that were there before the change over to docs.sony web site.
This docs.sony.com/release/SMD/989070311_SM.pdf doesn't work anymore it's been changed to something else...i know what it is :-)
likewise the bulletins link has also been changed...i know what it is too :-)
Now i could simply post this all on here for everyone too see..but i'm not gonna.
that's how the links get changed to something else and also how login and passwords suddenly get changed too.. i'm no dummy ..
If you know the manual Doc number or bulletin number give me a shout and i'll grab it for you and email it to you or if its a big file i'll upload it somewhere for you download mediafire , rapidshare, etc

Also noted Reference Library is blocking all non-US IP's-likely as other Sony subsidaries have their own service sites (eg. servman.sony.com.au for Sony Australia).

like i said posting that kinda stuff is how those links get canned...
the LG site is already aware of this kinda thing and has opted to make everyone change there password every month until further notice.
.i don't know about you but i hate having to change my passwords..let alone change it at the end of every month.
I will send files or even upload them but thats as far as i go..right now the process i use to get them is working and want to keep it that way.

i'm not tellin ya how or where the service manuals are located,,nine time outa ten anyone wanting the manuals this bad is probably just gonna post em on a service manuals sold here web site or something anyway.
I'm thinking it was a bad idea even mentioning i have access to them..er well correction had access to them.
you want the manuals try asking in sharefx or something. maybe someone in there can help ya out.

Sony have implemented new IP checking routine into their ESI site, if you IP is not within the USA your access is logged. No download can be obtained from outside the USA.

Of course, I suspect thid is done to encourage servicers to use their regional service site-eg. Assist for Europe, Servman for Australia.

Does anyone know what the destination abbreviations mean in Sony service manuals. For example I often see AEP, PX, E, US, Canadian, UK, etc. I guess E would be European, US would be United States, Canadian would be Canadian but I have no idea about AEP or PX. Anyone knows ?
BTW, I think that Sony Assist has hundreds of manuals/updates each month so posting one new Sony manual somewhere is a drop in the ocean. For example a month or two worth of updates:
Service Manual updates (2510 new manuals)
Technical Bulletin updates (28693 new bulletins)
And I believe Sony Assist is for Europe. Now add those from Sony ESI and your jaw drops.

I would still like some help with the manual abbreviations. I think I was wrong about the E meaning Europe. Seems like E means EXPORT and AEP relates to Europe. I would still like to know for sure, and also about PX, etc.

Sony Assist manuals are encrypted (protected with the user/open password) which means you cannot open them with Adobe Acrobat Reader outside Sony Assist engine in your browser. Leaving details of alternate techniques aside, I am wondering if anyone has been able to figure out the password for those files ?

There is no password available, you are able to save them locally as a true PDF if you have a PDF writer set up as a printer. Once printed using this you can open them like any other PDF document.

I have never seen an index to the destination abbreviations. However, I have always looked at the Power Requirements for a clue. The STR-DA6400ES service manual available on Sony Assist lists the destinations US, UK and AEP. The first two are obvious, but what about AEP? If I look at the power requirements, I find the following:
120 V AC, 60 Hz (US model)
230 V AC, 50/60 Hz (UK and AEP models)
Based on the latter power requirements, I have always assumed that AEP means Asian, European, Pacific.
Any comments Mr_Mod and babyaservice?

The links to 2 manuals that i foundno longer work-the user sila1999 was asked by Sony Australia to remove the files.
Sony in the US probably wasn't happy that its manuals were being offfered for free and will probably take action agisnt manual sellers who provide these.
