    I have a Sony STR-DB 1070 receiver and
have a problem with its 6.1 decoding. The
auto 6.1 has never worked in my receiver eventhough I have tried some DVDs that should have had DD-EX and/or DTS-ES.
I´ve tried i.e. Pearl Harbour, Jurassic Park III
and the auto 6.1 doesn´t come on. I´ve heard that the Jurassic Park III´s DTS-ES should have the autoflag and also Pearl Harbour. Does anybody know the answer for this problem? My DVD player is Sony 400.

    Thanks for help

    Hi Jakke,
I've asked the same question one day ago. My receiver is the 1080 and the auto function on Dolby Digital EX didn't work. But Schwa72 told me, that this is normal, only Jurassic Park III and Pearl Habor French Soundtrack does have the Flag. My problem is, that these DVD's are the american versions I think cause the german version a can only get (cause I'm from there) are without EX/ES.
BUt the DTS ES auto decode has to work, casue nearly all discs using this decoding have set the flag and my receiver is starting the auto decoding. So in shorter works, if your receiver not start to auto decode DD EX but does auto start on DTS ES DVD's then everythink is fine. For more information look hereLink

Hope I could help Dino Dini

Yeah I have th 1070 and that is correct. The 'flagging' issue in the industry is pathetic in the extreme. Some disks have flags whern they dont even have EX/ES information on the disk.

dts are much better than Dolby with flagging, but it is extremely unreliable.

The best solution is to always have your 1070 doing the decoding anyway (even when there isnt a ES or EX channel) by having it on Normal Surround, instead of A.F.D. - as long as you have 6.1 activated, Sonys proprietry cnetre rear mixing technology (not real EX or ES) will use DPL to pull info out of the rear channels.

    Thanks for your answers

Yeah I´ve heard that often DD-EX doesn´t have the auto-flag but even DTS-ES Matrix
doesn´t give me the auto 6.1 decoding.
    I don´t know if I should upgrade to 1080
    or maybe 333ES...

Do not upgrade to a 1080 just for the 6.1 - remember that 1080 only has dts 6.1 discrete that the 1070 doesn't (which isnt on many disks). For all Matrix ES & EX formats it does essentially the same job as the 1080.

FYI everybody Pearl Harbour does NOT have 5.1 EX - the story is that the flag was left on in the french mixing studio after the last movie was mixed - it is standard 5.1 even though it comes up 3/2+1.

    craig,

    i also have the 1070.
As I stated to everyone in another discussion I cannot get ddex to show 3/2 1 on my decoder. Do you know why?

My experience with most dts flagging is good, but I have never had it with dd.

should i see 3/2 1 for dd ex??????
