Hey,
I just saw something online about a new Sony TV, it is called the OLED. It looks amazing. It is a thick as 3 credit cards, and supposedly has amazing deep black levels, which produces a contrast ratio of a million to one. I was wondering if anyone else has seen or heard of this? They say it is going for around $2499. Decent price tag, so wanted to ask around before I made any decisions! Thanks!

If it's the one I've heard of, it's only a 10" screen!! The technology is not progressing as fast as they hoped.

These TV's are really cool and have a high contrast ratio. I read about the Sony 27" OLED prototype, which has a contrast ratio greater than 1,000,000:1! Wow!

The information I saw was for the 11", it isn't something I am going to get immeditaly, only because $2499.00 for 11" is a bit steep, but I will be keeping my eye on this. The picture quality does look fantastic thugh, I saw it from the Consumer Electronic Show: http://www.expotv.com/CES-Show-Sony-OLED-TV-XEL-1-Organic-TV/3Q-17EA
Thanks for the opinions!

Sound & Vision magazine has a review of the TV: http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/hdtvs/2740/we-size-up-sonys-oled-tv.html
All the talk of thinness is a bit of a joke, as it appears to also require a big box with all the electronics!!!

The 11in OLED TV is displayed at the Sony demo center at 55th/56th St and Madison Ave in NYC. The picture is awesome, with vivid colors, very high contrast, and extremely thin screen. On my question whether there would be any larger screens coming soon, the reply was that the manufacturing lines won't be up until 2010. There might be a 27in TV in 2009.

*************************************************** John, If there is, I will let you be the beta tester before I buy my 70 incher. If a 10" OLED costs $2,500 we should be able to get out 70" OLED's for roughly seven times that amount or $17,500. That still would be only half the cost of the KDL70XBR3! Quite the bargin. Joe

I wish Sony would release a variant of the XEL-1 in Australia or Europe.

Sir Howard Stringer,Sony's chairman, announced last week that a 27 inch OLED television..."would go out within 12 months,we haven't set a date." However,it will be very expensive,he said. My guess, they will introduce it in time for the Christmas season,2008.
