I'm considering buying a new customized Sony VAIO in the new RZ series.
I'm interested in GigaPocket more as a way of recording from analog sources (and less so as a TV recorder) and plan to edit a lot of home movies shot in both Hi-8 and MiniDV using Premiere 6.5 and AfterEffects, then burning to DVD.
However, I also own a Sony DVCM-DA2 -- a device which converts analog video and audio sources into digital signals which are then fed into the computer via firewire (i.LINK).
So...can I save myself the extra $220 and simply use my D/A converter for those analog sources, or does GigaPocket offer me some other great flexability that I'm not aware of? (and keep in mind I don't really plan to use it to record programs off-air).
Also: I'd almost rather have the Sound Blaster Audigy card than GigaPocket (they're not available in the same configuration) but only if I can still achieve the same things with the D/A converter that I would with GigaPocket.

I'm wondering the same thing - whether I should order Giga Pocket on a custom VAIO RZ 20-series desktop, basically in order to allow for conversion of VHS tapes to digital (not TV record). I know there are alternatives (e.g. WinFast TV Deluxe XP) but not sure how they compare.
Chuckamuck, did you ever buy a VAIO? Did you get Giga? How has your VHS conversion experience been with whatever you ended up with?
