    Hello All,

I just upgraded to a new DG910 and my question is about hooking up a sub.  My sub is a 6 or 7 year old Cambridge Soundwoks powered sub.  It has 2 componet looking connections, a Left and Right.  The DG appears to only require 1 cable to go to the sub so i used a white component cable to run to one of the subs 2 inputs.  About every 45 seconds it gives me a loud pop.

So I guess my question is, how should I connect it the sub and why is it poping.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Frank

How are the 2 inputs on your Subwoofer labeled?

Do you know the technical name of the "component like connections" it has? Are they coaxial type connections like RCA or BNC?

They are called "Line Level Inputs" and they are white and red.  One has a L and one has a R.

The Red has an "R Mono" label and the white just has an "L"

Am I correct in assuming that you have the subwoofer output on your STR-DG910 connected to the red "R Mono" jack on you sub?  If so, you have it connected properly.  Does your sub have a three prong plug on the end of the power cable?  If so, there could be a ground loop problem, but normally that results in hum.

     frankandsteph,

Before giving up on your CS sub, have you tried using the Left input to see if you get the same popping noise?

Can you try a different cable to ensure it is not an interconnect problem?

Have you tried a splitter adapter or cable to try feeding both inputs to eliminate the popping?

Any chance of trying your sub in another system like a friend or relatives to eliminate the possibility of it being something other than the sub itself? Or, can you borrow another sub to make sure that the popping noise is not a problem with the sub output on your DG910?

Just hate to give up without exhausting every possibility.

All suggestions above are great ones !

If it's a ground loop problem...You could try one of the "Cheater" adapters that go from 3 prong to a two prong plug as a test...I wouldn't recommend it permanently, but it could give you a answer...

I'm still not clear on if you have tried just the sub plugged into the wall...Without connection to the DG910....Does it pop that way ?...If so you could pretty much rule out the rest of the system...

    frankandsteph,

Great news! Thanks for posting back with the end result. Here's hoping that the popping noise is gone for good.

Any idea what changed by using the surge protector, does it have a filter also?
