    Hi All,
I routinely search for the latest firmware for my DVP-CX777ES player and just noticed that http://www.request.com/support/VRQ/Sony.html ReQuest Multimedia has updated their version to 1.5.20 as of October.

Does anyone know what improvements this newer firmware makes over 1.510?
I will probably update my player this weekend, but would like to hear everyones thoughts. Regards, Karl A/V System: Sunfire TGIII & Cinema Grand Amp, Sony DVP-S570D & DVP-CX777ES & KDE-37XS955, ATC SCM12's L-C-R, REL STRATA III Sub, Infinity rears, Dayton Audio cables, Monster 1100 PS, etc.

Now that is what I am talking about. I hope this updates the Disc Explorer and gives us some of the functionallity that the new changer has. If anyone does this let me know what the diffrence is.

My queston is where did that update come from?  The documentation with the last version available at SonyESI states the it is revision 1.500.

    Tbone7467 and John,

I posted in this forum a while back about accidentally downgrading from 1.5.20, which my unit came with, to 1.5.10. I did this stupid thing before I got a chance to watch a movie, listen to music, check out the disk explorer, or setup menu's. So, I know nothing about this version firsthand.

I have never had any problems with mine except one time while watching "Star Wars: Episode 2" about halfway through the power turned off.

I will probably update on Sunday and will report if there are any obvious differences that I can see.

Great find, please let us know if you notice any difference! I doubt it will be a menu upgrade though.

Hey interestingly my 777 occasionally shuts down halfway through a move, but its only done it since I got it Region Modded and PAL capable.....

I'm not sure about doing the firmware upgrade after the regional modification, I think it will rub out the firmware which allows the region free capabilities !

    Anybody know for sure?

    Craig,
I'm sure you will loose the region free capabilities if you upgrade the firmware as the only thing it was necessary for me to have region free capabilities in my 985 was to install a single firmware chip (IC106¬/IC107) preloaded with modified 777 firmware!

    Cheers,
    Fernando

    Oleg,
Late production 985s came with a non flashable ROM.
You need to have installed a Fujitsu MBM29DL324 flash chip. Check this thread:

My 985 is flashable (running the 777 1.5.10) -- went through the update properly with this newly posted firmware.

Had the screen snow, and flashing blue light, and did an init reset on the diags screen.

I confirm also no change in reported version from 1.5.10

    This is indeed unexpectedly strange.

What version are we talking about?

After installing the new firmware chip (IC106/IC107) preloaded with modified 777 firmware my 985 reports the following versions:

    ROM Revision: 1520
    ROM checksum: 3990

    IFcon Ver: 1.500 Group: 01
    SYScon Ver: 1.520 Model: 10 Region: 01
    ServoDSP Ver:1.060
    AVD ucode Ver: 05E3048A

Unfortunately I can’t find what versions I had before region free upgrade!

    Cheers,
    Fernando

this was not a modchip; it was the 1.5.20 file posted on ReQuest earlier in this thread. After going through the same process that took my 985 up to the 777 v1.5.10 last year, this claimed 1.5.20 mega_vup.bin shows no change to either IFcon or SYScon versions. If my (real) 777's were not already at 1.5.20, I'd try it out on them to see what difference (if any) that 'natural' 777 hardware makes. *shrug* Anyone have 995 firmware extracted and ported down to the 777/985 yet? .

I think that request.com forgot to upload the new file onto their server. The file "mega_vup.bin" inside Sony_mega_vup.zip is dated 12/22/2003, the same file date as the firmware posted as 1.5.10 that I downloaded on 12/28/2004.

I also did a binary comparison between the two files, they are identical.

My unit was manufactured May 2004 and purchased from Sony March 2005, it has firmware 1.5.2. I do not know if 1.5.2 was released before May 2004 or if Sony upgraded my unit before I received it.

I suspect that the only way that version 1.5.20 may be obtained is if someone reads it off the replacement IC106.

Well guys I'm sorry I started this thread and got your hopes up, I guess I was so excited that I didn't think to look at the .bin file date.

Maybe someone at Request Multimedia wanted to have some fun.

    Hi All,

    Whoohoo!

I sent an email to the Webmaster over at ReQuest multimedia and he has updated the link to the correct Firmware 1.5.20, and I say "correct" in as much as I looked at the date on the file and it's newer (8/2004).

    http://www.request.com/support/VRQ/Sony.html

I have downloaded it and will update my player this weekend.

I finally got around to upgrading mine. No problems. I haven't noticed anything different while using it - maybe thats good!

I wish someone knew a Sony tech that could give us a version history with what the updates are for.

Can anyone tell me what are the problems with the Explorer feature on the 777ES? What desirable features does the Explorer on the newer models have?

I am having problems getting my DVP-CX777ES to display the current firmware version. I am following the diretions on the Request Multimedia Site  on how to check the firware and all my unity will do is shutdown when I get to step #3.

I start by pressing the I/O key on the remote. Once the unit is turned on I press the "5", "Clear" and then the "I/O keys.

What am I doing wrong ??

You made two mistakes: 1) you turned the power on initially and 2) you need to press the TOP MENU key instead of the "5" key.

    Here are the proper instructions:

Press the TOP MENU, CLEAR, I/O keys on the remote commander in this order with the power of main unit in OFF status, and the Test Mode starts, then "DIAG START" will be displayed on the fluorescent display tube and the "Test Mode Menu" will appear.  To exit from the Test Mode, press the I/O key.

Thanks, got the upgrade and works fine.

I also don't notice any differences. Probably just a few bug-fixes. Just as well.

I am not sure that the information that follows applies to SYScon Ver1.520 or not, but its the only information available at SonyESI.  There is only one service bulletin and it includes a firmware update.  Here is the service bulletin information:
    ______________________________________________________
    Document Reference/Event ID: E23445147
    Last Update: 12/14/2005
    Model: DVPCX777ES
    Subject: Disc sorting doesn't operate

    SYMPTOMS
Discs in slot 305-400 may not be sorted in DISC EXPLORER.

    CAUSE
    Malfunction of firmware

    RESOLUTION
Download the two files listed below and proceed to install the latest firmware.  Refer to the Readme-DVPCX777ES.doc below for the procedure.

    #mega_vup.zip - Firmware (zipped file)
    #Readme-DVP-CX777ES.doc - Procedure manual
    ______________________________________________________

The # means that the filename is preceded by E23445147-.  According to the Readme file, following the upgrade, SYScon should "Ver.1.500" and check sum should be "bd03".  #mega_vup.zip contains one file, mega_vup.bin.  Here is the information provided about mega_vup.bin by WinZip:

    Name                  Modified                   Size
    mega_vup.zip       10/30/03 2:26 PM      4,194,306

Here comes a dumb question:  is this only for the dvp-cx777es?

Is there a newer firmware for the DVP-CX985V?   I pre-ordered and received mine in November 2003.  I'm sure there must be a newer firmware for it, but the above link seems to be only for the DVP-CX777ES.  I'm assuming since my player is one of the first bunch that it is flashable?

    Hi, all

After update my cx985v DVD changer's firmware from original 1.500 version to latest 1.520 version.
    Unhappy thing is happen!
Original normal setup menu have 3 items "quick", "custom" and "reset".
But after update this new firmware,
setup menu only have 1 item "custom".
After into this "custom" item, all setting items are locked.
They just display only, I can not modify those setting, including setup menus with "language", "screen", "custom", "audio" and "speaker".
Except this big problem, all other functions is OK including "service mode" information.
Would anyone have anyother versions firmware to send me?
    Despite original or other releasing....
Please help me and my e-mail is
    jj.ko@msa.hinet.net
    Thank you for your help.
