Sony's new chief, Howard Stringer, "vowed Thursday to make reviving the Japanese company's battered electronics sector a priority by focusing on key products that can bring long-term growth. Stringer...gave no details on what businesses or products he may drop, saying a turnaround plan will be announced in late September."

I hope that Stringer's plan will include another generaton of affordable and reliable Digital Receivers.

How about making all ES receivers Digital-Drive. Then bring non ES Sony receivers up to DB series specs, Let Pioneer and JVC have the entry level market. Most real enthusiasts are willing to spend a little more for better components anyway.
How about add some protection circuitry so that an accidental speaker short isn't the "kiss-of-death" to the output transistors (car audio amps have done this for years) and make equipment available in black or silver. ----------------- Graduate of Sony University, class of '94.

RickeyM,
Too bad you can't get into Howard Stringer ear with your suggestions. All of them excellent.

I think if we try a little, someone at corporate headquarters might notice us . I mean, what other brand has a website as full of rabid, er, enthusiastic (yeah, that's the word) followers as Sony? ----------------- Graduate of Sony University, class of '94.

As much as we enthusiastic (rabid) Sony fans love our ES grade gear I was reading that Sony makes 5 out of the top 10 selling Receivers in the US. The interesting thing though is that none of them were ES models, but rather all of them were DE grade models.
It appears as though the DE line is the bread and butter of Sony's Receiver line at least here in the States anyway. I guess not everyone shares our enthusiasm for premium quality Sony Audio equipment.

Your average audio customer probably doesn't know about Sony's ES line. I'd wager that the majority of Sony fans that stick with the brand, move up to ES gear when they get a chance to. Take my example, it took three Sony recevers before I went ES. ----------------- Graduate of Sony University, class of '94.

RickeyM,
Your probably correct in saying that most consumers are not aware of Sony's ES line. I credit this forum and it's members for my enlightenment.

Don't sell yourselves short. You fellows were drawn to the ES line like moths to a flame. Sony fans who are on a quest for higher quality sound find themselves drawn to the higher build quality that the ES line offers.

Maxx,
Your absolutely correct. When it came time for me to upgrade my receiver there wasn't even a thought of going with a different brand then Sony. I knew that I wanted to move up the ladder from the DE line and the ES line was a natural choice.

I've purchased 5 Sony Receivers over the last 25 years and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I used to have a DE 925. It was a great machine and the only DE model to feature DTS decoding like the DA 50ES of that same model year did.
