The xbr960 direct view set allows the user to choose one of three drc modes to view 480i inputs - interlaced, progressive, and cinemotion. The latter is supposed to incorporate "3/2 reverse pulldown" to handle filmed sources. When using cinemotion to watch material such as an HBO weekly series (The Wire, etc), I often notice an artifact in which the scan lines appear to become more "visible" (perhaps further apart?) for a brief time before going back to the usual "progressive" appearance. Anyone else ever see this?

Overall, I prefer the smooth look of interlaced, but that mode seems to have its own set of artifacts that occasionally crop up (smudged mouths during head shots of talking characters is one that comes to mind).

If you see those brief scan lines during scene changes in Cinemotion, that means the source is NOT film-based or wasn't converted using pulldown. Switch to regular Interlaced for Progressive when you see that.

I usually only use Cinemotion for DVD films. It's too hard to tell when pulldown correction is needed from other sources.
