I recently purchased a Sony RDR-VX500 DVD±R/RW Combo Recorder VHS/DVD. When viewing tapes (DVDs work fine), I experience periodic color and brightness fluctuations during scenes with high contrast or brightness. This has happened with two RDR-VX500 units. My TV is a Mitsubishi CS-2710RA. However, I experience the same problem using different monitors. Is anyone experiencing similar problems and/or can offer suggestions to correct this problem.
Your response is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Agoraquest! Which RDR-VX500 video output are you using when you have the problem? If the component video output is active when you are playing back a tape, upconversion is required from composite to component video, which could be where the problem lies. Which video outputs are active when playing back a tape? Have you tried them all? ----------------- -John

Thanks for your response.
I experience the same problems using the Line Out or VHF/UHF Out. My TV does not support S Video or Component Video and therefore these outputs are not used.

Then your problem can't an upconversion isssue. Does your symptom occur on any tape that you play? If it does, apparently there is a weakness in the design of the tape playback portion of the RDR-VX500. There are no service bulletins or tips addressing your issue at the present time. Since you already have tried two units, I would take it to your local Sony servicecenter and have them check it out. ----------------- -John
