gary_sony- I think that sounds like bad news. I had the same problem, it exhibited all the exact same symptoms as you describe, with my SAT-HD200 about a month ago. I sent it in for service (first to Tweeter and they forwarded it on to Sony) but I wasn't able to find out the problem. They had the receiver for two months before I was sent a replacement.

So they repaired it? If so was it under warranty, not sure of length of warranty. I would have to weight the cost of repair vs getting something else. How did you determine for sure it was your receiver.

gary_sony- From what I was told they couldn't repair it, and they just replaced it with another receiver. The standard warranty for the SAT-HD200 is; labor: 90 days, parts: 1 year, but I purchased a five year extended warranty through Tweeter. I have two satellite receivers, the SAT-HD200 and the SAT-A50. I switched both thier positions, the SAT-A50 worked in both places and the SAT-HD200 didn't work in either. Also, we didn't have any bad weather that day, nor any wind to speak of. I just got up the next day and no signal strength.

Thanks for the info. My receiver is less than the 1 yr for parts but we all know the labor is the buster. I will try my sat b65 today when I get home and will probably confirm my hd is dead. The last time I sent something to sony for repair it actually cost me less to buy new than have repaired. Thanks again for the help.

gary_sony- If nothing good comes out of this, try giving DIRECTV a call. I read online where you can get a deal, not sure on the brand, for an HD DIRECTV receiver for $99, but I'm not sure on the length of commitment. This isn't really advertised anywhere, but another member mentioned it recently and got the deal.

    gary_sony,

I would suggest taking Toli's good advice and calling DirecTV to see what kind of a deal they can offer you. If you don't feel satisfied with their offer ask to speak to a "customer retention representative" (no joke) and explain that other companys are offering great deals and that you would really like to stay with DirecTV .......................... etc. I was surprised how they will work with you.

Here is an update to crazy troubles. I checked system last night and these are the wierd findings:

1-signal check of sat a,b,c are like this, sat a on odd transponder=85, sat b=80 but only on odd, nothing on even, sat c no signal(only choice is even)

2-seems I am only getting signal on odd transponders only.

3-Results-initial setup on sathd200 will fail because on no signal on sat b&c.

4-tried my other receiver sat B55 from upstairs and althought it is not a HD receiver, it will display all subscribed channel. (I believe this style rec only responds to sat a only)

I believe my trouble could be in the dish/combiner/multiswitch.

I bought a signal strength meter but am not sure how to hook it up.

Note: I have a oval dish with 3 lnb setup with the sat c added with terk kit, you use combiner to join b&c then output combiner to 18v(22Khz) connector on multiswitch.

Any further suggestions before I call for help.

Man I can not believe this.  There was a storm two days ago and from reading the threads below, I have the EXACT SAME ISSUE.  I have a total of 4 receivers in my home.  Two of them are DirectTV Phillips receivers, the other two are Sony HD-200 receivers. BOTH my HD-200 receivers got messed up.  I get no signal on all three transponders, but my Phillips are fine.  I have the oval Disk with the Terk TV 44 attached.  I unattached the Terk and connected the cables direct to the multiswtich on the LNB; thinking maybe the Terk module got messed up; this was not the case.  I still got no signals.  I connected my Phillips where the Sony HD-20os were connected, and they got great signal as ususal.  I have no idea what happened to these receivers.  I even had them connected to a Monster Power Bar; the cable line and power line; also my Dish is grounded; I had grounded it myself months back.  I do not have a clue what gives here.  I just dropped off both receivers to Tweeter where I purchased them.  They will be shipping them out to Sony for repair.  I have 1 yr parts.  The labor is going to cost $87 per receiver.  Lets see what happens.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  This is truly terrible.

    fusion,

Wow, what's the chances of both HD200 receivers getting "wacked" at the same time. If I understand your post correctly the Phillips receivers were not in use during the storm? I know that it might take a few weeks before you find anythng out from Sony but please post back here and let us know what they have to say. Best of luck.

I worked in Directv's tech support center for the last six and one half years, so I have seen them all, the very simple ones in the beginning right up to the ones we have now, and whenever you get signals on odd or even transponders it always traces back to the dish.  Either the multi switch at the dish itself is having a problem or the lnb on the dish is not functioning properly. With the oval 3 dishes that we have now, they have a multi switch built into the dish, its also possible that you have one connected someplace either inside or outside if you have several receivers connected to one dish and one of those could be causing the problem.  My system has a multi switch inside that runs the three receivers and the tivo, and the multi switch on the dish runs the HD receiver to the main television.  Check all the connectors on the dish and any of the multi switch connections away from the dish and you might find that one might be loose or in the case of recent storm activity, if its outside, it might have some moisture that has collected around it and is grounding out the signal.

    corvette,

Greetings and welcome. Great advice. I hope you plan on staying onboard. With six+ years with DirecTV's tech support you could be a real asset to this forum.
