Hey guys new to the forum, really enjoying it. Question? I am wanting to get my folks a DVD/VCR Combo for christmas and I am wanting to get them a Sony (to match the 32" TV and Satellite Reciever). I have found the Sony SLVD300P at all the retailers but have read some terrible reviews on it. Do any of you have any experience with this?
Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays.

    Mark

Don't get it, to many media compatability issues. For this I would not go with Sony.

I'm not sure what MachineMan is referring to when he say's too many media compatibility issues. The SLVD300P will play all the formats including: DVD, DVD+RW/+R, DVD-RW/-R (video mode), CD, VCD, SVCD, CD-R/RW, JPEG, and MP3.

I bought the SLVD300P earlier this year to play all the DVD media formats(DVD+RW/+R, DVD-RW/-R) Sony claimed it would play so I could watch my home videos I burned on DVDR. But I had to retun it becuase it would not consistantly play DVD-R and others. I also found other compliants on other forums about the same issues.

I settled for a Zenith VBX343 DVD/VHS combo with more features for a cheaper price.

Other DVD/VHS Combos; Toshiba, Samsung, JVC, Panasonic, LG, ....

    MachineMan,

Thanks for the explanation. I burn DVD's in the + format and can appreciate your frustration of a player claiming to play all formats and then not being able to play your homemade movies. Does your Zenith VBX343 DVD/VHS combo play all DVD formats?

Glad to hear you found something that works. One of the reasons I keep my cheepo Apex1500 is that it will play everything that you can throw at it (not DVD-Ram either). It is macrovision and region free and being two years old @ $49.00(US) it owes me nothing.
