IMO, crossovers can be regarded as the heart of a speaker. Unfortunately, this area is where many manufacturers cut costs on their products.
I've never heard good full-range speakers, but the design benifits are interesting.

The best full range speakers I know of have been DIY projects built from scratch by someone who appreciates the sound of the ultimate simplicity of crossover-less speakers.

NiteHawn's original post makes me wish someone had a tutorial on moding/improving crossovers. I think a lot of mid-fi or better speakers have solid improvement potential because the "bean counters" had too much say on how the crossovers in their speakers would be built.

RickeyM- You could possibly contact maverick11359 about building some improved speaker crossovers. These are the external crossovers he built for his speakers...

I remember that. I think he basically rebuilt the stock crossovers with higher quality parts and got a good boost in SQ.
