I am a newbie considering buying this combination, but I notice that the Denon doesn't have any aspect ratio control. Does anyone know if this lack of control will cause me problems? Or will everything look after itself .

The denon 2800 is a pretty lousy player, not quite as bad as an apex but pretty close. The colors are muted compared to other players in the price range. On some discs frames are not displayed. It has the chroma bug everyone complains about. Plus others complain that the red level is actually higher than the other colors. Many people have also complained that the denon has a soft or fuzzy image. Even for those peopl lucky enough to get a player that isnt causing constant problems have had audio dropouts and lip synch problems. Of course a few people are happy, and firmware upgrades seem to fix a few of the issues but money can be better spent on other players.
You would be so much better off with an rp91 for example. The best aspect ratio control yet with a picture to match. You can choose auto or manaully specify each one. There are very few if any real issues with this player. It has a better image than the denon (opinion) PLUS IT COSTS LESS MONEY.
