I just replaced my old Samsung DVD player with a Sony SLVD300P. I was looking forward to being able to play any comercially produced disc with no issue - unlike the days with the Samsung. After about my third day of playing rental DVDs, I got bit by the same ol' bug. A Columbia Pictures produced disc just locks up the player, to the point where I have to power down/up to eject. The saddest part is that this particular disc plays fine in the old Samsung.  I tried three returns to Blockbuster & they are out of ideas at this point.
Is there a ROM upgrade I can do like I did with the Samsung (that one actually let me play the first Matrix after the upgrade)?
Any thoughts? Otherwise I'm sending it back. I can't believe you can buy a player these days that doesn't play ALL comercially produced discs. Have you ever heard of a music CD not playing in certain players?
