Just in time for the back-to-school season, Sony Electronics has made its top-selling handheld brand accessible to students with an entry-level model retailing for just $150. Ideal for entry-level handheld users, the new CLIE PEG-SL10 model features a high-resolution, monochrome screen perfect for the classroom and conference room.

“We packed the new CLIE handheld with features typically found in higher-end models to offer entry-level users a stylish and flexible device that will grow to fit their lifestyles,” said Russell Paik, Sony Electronics’ vice president for handheld marketing For mobile users with high productivity demands, the CLIE PEG-SL10 handheld comes standard with Palm OS® (v.4.1) applications, and Sony’s popular Jog Dial™ navigator which allows for single-handed menu and application navigation.

For up-to-the-minute editing of important documents and spreadsheets, users can transfer Microsoft® Word and Excel application documents from their PC to the new handheld using the bundled Documents To Go® Standard Edition (DataViz, Inc.), a popular desktop software for handhelds. The CLIE SL10 handheld’s high-resolution (320 x 320 pixels), monochrome screen easily renders a quarterly projection report or mid-term essay in fine detail.

Built for more than personal information management, the new handheld also comes bundled with PictureGear™ Pocket software for digital image viewing. The unit offers 8MB of internal memory (7MB available), which enables the CLIE handheld to function as a digital camera through the use of an optional Memory Stick™ PEGA-MSC1 Camera Module. In addition, the dedicated Memory Stick® media slot provides virtually unlimited space for images and games with additional Memory Stick media (sold separately).

This new handheld model will be available in August for about $150 at retailers nationwide or can be pre-ordered beginning today at http://www.sonystyle.com/clie.
