Sony Introduces High Energy Rechargeable Batteries and One-Hour Advance Power Charge

Sony Electronics has begun shipping a new line of high-energy Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries and an advanced power quick charger to retail stores throughout North America.

The rechargeable batteries are designed to power digital cameras and other high-performance consumer electronics devices up to three times more than ordinary alkaline batteries.

The compact power charger automatically detects the amount of charge required for each battery placed in the unit, and can fully charge up to four AA or AAA Ni-MH or Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) rechargeable batteries in just about an hour. The lightweight device is slick and metallic in color to go hand in hand with other Sony accessories. “As portable electronics devices require more power, consumers are demanding longer device run time and faster charge time,” said Richard Latorre, national sales manager of Sony Electronics’ U.S. Energy Group. “Rechargeable batteries offer a significant advantage in performance, convenience and cost.”

According to Latorre, two Sony Ni-MH AA batteries will allow a user of a digital still camera to take up to three and a half times more pictures, and unlike alkaline batteries that can only be used once, the Ni-MH rechargeable batteries can be re-charged hundreds of times for significant cost savings.

Retail Store Information

A starter pack of the new Sony rechargeable batteries comes in a blister card containing the one-hour power charger with two AA size batteries. Additional AA and AAA batteries are available separately in packages of two. The products are now available at retail stores nationwide including Circuit City, Fred Meyer, Fry’s Electronics and Sony Style stores for less than $35.
