Sony Television: Sony Will have it's HD Technology covering the Superbowl in Miami
Posted by claudio on Sunday, February 07, 2010 @ 15:52:44 EST (75 reads)
Sony Television Bravia LCD More than 50 Sony high-definition cameras will cover every angle of the National Football League's championship game, to be broadcast Feb. 7 on the CBS Television Network from Miami's Sun Life Stadium.

NEP Broadcasting will provide several trailers for pre- and post-game, main game and the half-time show. The Sony gear used by NEP for the main broadcast in the United States includes HDC-1500 multi-format cameras and HDC-3300 super-motion camera systems, which will be positioned throughout the stadium. In addition, a Sony MVS-8000A production switcher, HD videotape recorders, displays and supporting production equipment will also be used to deliver the game.

According to George Hoover, senior vice president of engineering for NEP, the Sony cameras and switchers have continuously proven themselves in high-profile live event productions, and he's confident in their ability to perform flawlessly again during the game.

"These technologies deliver a range of functions that are critical to delivering quality live football coverage," Hoover said. "The cameras work extremely well, they have fast response and very good sensitivity, and the switchers give us the flexibility we need."

Industry News: First Sony, now Panasonic swings into black and raises outlook
Posted by claudio on Sunday, February 07, 2010 @ 15:50:28 EST (79 reads)
Industry News Always, good to hear other top brands are doing well.

Sony isn’t the only electronics powerhouse reporting good news from the financial front these days. Today Panasonic, which, as you will remember, recently acquired Sanyo for $4.4 billion, announced it returned to profit in its fiscal third quarter (October to December 2009), too. The company’s profit nearly quadrupled to $1.1 billion, while revenue almost stayed the same at $20.1 billion in that quarter (on a year-on-year basis).

Sony PS 3: It's getting Better, Sony is down to $18 loss per Playstation 3
Posted by claudio on Sunday, February 07, 2010 @ 15:48:29 EST (204 reads)
Sony Playstation 3 According to a Wall Street Journal report, Sony is losing $18 on every PlayStation 3 sold.

The last time we heard, Sony was losing almost double that, $37, on every system sold, so the company is slowly getting closer and closer to turning a profit on the machines.

With component prices dropping, the journal cites Sony in saying it hopes to make money on every PS3 ushered out the door by the financial year 2011.

Considering the PlayStation 3 released at $599 in 2006 and all the financial trouble the company has embodied as of late, this lessening loss has got to be good news for Sony.

Sony News: Great news: Sony Returns to Profit and Cuts Full year Loss Forecast
Posted by claudio on Sunday, February 07, 2010 @ 15:46:04 EST (78 reads)
Sony News Sony expects a smaller annual loss after blockbuster movie releases, cost cuts and robust holiday gadget sales boosted quarterly earnings more than sevenfold.

The Japanese manufacturing icon, known for products like the PlayStation 3 game console, Thursday said its net profit for the October-December quarter jumped to 79.2 billion yen ($861 million) from 10.4 billion yen a year earlier.

Robust revenue from movies, personal computers and financial services lifted revenue by 4 percent to 2.24 trillion yen.

Sony said it benefited from strong worldwide theater releases such as "2012" and "Michael Jackson's This is It," as well as home DVD sales of titles like "Angels & Demons."

Sony News: Blog And Twitter Campaign Convinces Sony To Replace Defective TV
Posted by claudio on Tuesday, February 02, 2010 @ 22:28:33 EST (337 reads)
Sony News Below is an interesting article from Laura at consumerist.com:

Scott has been a longtime and loyal Sony customer, but the company finally disappointed him. He writes that his lovely 46" LCD began to produce strange images on one side of the screen for ten minutes after powering up--not catastrophic, but not acceptable for a $3,000 TV, either. The regular channels of customer service were no help, so Scott took his case to his blog and to Twitter. The result? He heard from executive customer service within hours, and received a new TV for his trouble.

Sony PSP: Sony rumored to be relaunching cheaper PSPgo
Posted by claudio on Tuesday, February 02, 2010 @ 22:18:36 EST (119 reads)
Sony PSP Sony might be about to re-release the PSPgo at a lower price point. It’s only a rumor, but one that’s easy to believe based on the dismal performance of the PSPgo since launch.

The news comes from Gamervision who has heard from a source close to Sony that a relaunch is “imminent”. It will be coupled with a new marketing campaign and a new price to help encourage uptake of the device.

Whatever Sony does will need to include a better deal for retailers who saw no value in the PSPgo beyond the small profit margin of selling the actual device. As all games are digital and sold by Sony there were no more sales beyond the hardware for anyone other than Sony.
