She’s reverent but she’s not slavish. In terms of the story, I have a vague knowledge but it’s nothing I can talk about... Quentin’s idea is another thing. He came in to Bad Robot and pitched it and it’s been put in the bank. I think he had us in mind when he came up with the idea; he likes the new cast. NATIONAL TREASURE 3---director Jon Turteltaub explained why a second sequel has not been made, “When NATIONAL TREASURE first got made, there was a lot more money to go around. Everybody got paid nicely. The problem with getting the third one made isn’t the people who are getting paid saying, 'I’m not doing it unless you pay me a lot!' It’s really that Disney feels they have other films they want to make that they think will make them more money. I think they’re wrong. I think they’re right about the movies they’re making; they’re obviously doing a really good job at making great films. I just think this would be one of them, and they don’t quite realize how much the Internet is begging for a third NATIONAL TREASURE.”

SCARFACE---director Antoine Fuqua said he wants his THE EQUALIZER star, Denzel Washington, to star in his remake of SCARFACE, “My dream is for him to be Scarface. He laughs sometimes and he kind of goes, “'(Al) Pacino did a great job! I don’t want to do that.'”

He left to go be with his lady love, who probably didn't stay with him but, you know, some evolution has taken place.
I don't want to play Frasier and go back to Seattle. I mean it would be silly."

Image

DIE HARD: YEAR ONE---director Len Wiseman (LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD) gave an update on the prequel movie about young John McClane, "DIE HARD’s going to be happening fairly soon. No dates. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI---Gary Whitta (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY) defended Rian Johnson (THE LAST JEDI) amidst fan backlash, “Look, I would not necessarily have made every choice that Rian made because I’m not the same person or writer or fan that he is, but I respect and admire and appreciate and support every choice he did make. The film he wrote is far braver and more mature and more challenging than I could ever have written.
I suspect that I would have written a more fan service-driven film that would have appeased some of that noisy minority but ultimately would have been a lesser and less important film because of it. Frankly, I’m disgusted by the treatment that Rian has received, he’s not just one of the most talented filmmakers working today but one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet in any walk of life, and both he and the film he made deserve far better.”

THE BATMAN---writer/director Matt Reeves said the script is almost finished, "We are working on getting our draft [in] the next couple weeks."
Reeves denied rumors the movie will be based on Frank Miler's "Batman: Year One" comic book, “We’re not doing any particular [comic]…Year One is one of the many comic books that I love. We are definitely not doing Year One. It’s just exciting to be focused very specifically on a tale that is defining for him and very personal to him. Obviously we’re not doing an origin tale or anything like that. We’re doing a story that is definitively Batman though and trying to tell a story that’s emotional and yet is really about him being the world’s greatest detective and all the things that for me, since I was a kid, made me love Batman.”

THE RED CIRCLE---US remake of the 1970 French heist movie LE CERCLE ROUGE. The remake has two criminals and an ex-Hong Kong cop who plan a big heist while battling a mobster and a relentless police investigator.

HALLOWEEN---producer Malek Akkad hinted William Shatner might appear in a future HALLOWEEN sequel due to his indirect connection to the classic John Carpenter movie. The mask worn by Michael Myers in the original HALLOWEEN was a modified Captain Kirk mask. Akkad was asked if Shatner had expressed an interest in appearing in a HALLOWEEN sequel, "Not to me directly, and from what I hear he doesn’t really acknowledge it. I think he makes light of it. We actually have one of the original impressions of Shatner in our office in L.A., so obviously we’re really grateful to him, and in certain ways we’ve tried to reach out to him (to) maybe do an appearance? Lord knows he’s busy enough with STAR TREK stuff…but you never know.”

Image

LOST---Evangeline Lilly said she is angry after being pressured to do partially nude scenes for the series, “In Season 3, I’d had a bad experience on set with being basically cornered into doing a scene partially naked, and I felt had no choice in the matter. And I was mortified and I was trembling when it finished. I was crying my eyes out and I had to go on do a very formidable, very strong scene thereafter."
She added, “In Season 4, another scene came up where Kate was undressing and I fought very hard to have that scene be under my control. And I failed to control it again. So I then said, ‘That’s it, no more. You can write whatever you want — I won’t do it. I will never take my clothes off on this show again.’ And I didn’t.”
JJ Abrams and the producers issued an apology to Lilly, "Our response to Evie’s comments in the media was to immediately reach out to her to profoundly apologize for the experience she detailed while working on Lost. We have not yet connected with her, but remain deeply and sincerely sorry. No person should ever feel unsafe at work. Period."

THE PREDATOR---Edward James Olmos said his role in the sequel was deleted due to time, “I’m not in the show though—It was too long so my character, they had to take me out. They were like half an hour, 3/4 of an hour too long. So I understand why. It was gracious of them to call me and tell me, ‘Hey, we really feel bad,’ you know?”

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN---the sixth movie in the franchise is underway with director Joachim Ronning.

FARGO---FX renewed the series for season 4 which will star Chris Rock as the head of a black crime family who agrees to trade his son for the son of the rival boss of the Italian crime family.

BAYWATCH---the lifeguard tv series is being released in HD for syndication. If it is successful the series might be rebooted.

THE FACTS OF LIFE---reboot of the sitcom that ran on NBC from 1979-1988 is underway at Sony Pictures Television. Star Charlotte Rae, 92, recently died.

DR. QUINN MEDICINE WOMAN---Jane Seymour said she wants her series to be rebooted, "They have brought back absolutely everything, I have no idea why they wouldn’t bring this back…people all over the world, all cultures, love DR. QUINN MEDICINE WOMAN…It’s so relevant to today, it could not be more relevant because it was all about people, the immigration into America.
The fans literally pleaded with Les Moonves and did everything they could to get him to put Dr. Quinn back on and he resolutely said no. My hope is that somebody somewhere at CBS will say hey let another studio do it!…It’s such a good show.” The series ran on CBS from 1993-1998.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY---FX renewed the series for Season 10. Jessica Lange is returning for Season 8.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 7

STAR TREK---CBS Studios TV head David Stapf said the network is developing more STAR TREK projects, "My goal is that there should be a STAR TREK something on all the time on All Access. We know it draws an audience, and DISCOVERY has done quite well."
CBS All Access head Marc DeBevoise said, in addition to the new Jean-Luc Picard series, “We’re looking at limited series for some Trek shows, and we are looking at ongoing series for some other Trek shows. We’ve obviously announced the one that’s coming next with Sir Patrick Stewart, but we have more in development there.”
CBC Vice President Julie McNamara said, "We’ve really talked about virtually all of the characters who popped in DISCOVERY as potential spin-off shows. It’s obviously very much driven by our conversations with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout and the other creators involved. I wouldn’t say at this point that we are actively pursuing a Michelle Yeoh series but it has been discussed."
Also, series designer Glenn Hetrick said the Klingons will have a new look in Season 2, “It has been a while since we have seen our Klingon friends. So, everything keeps evolving. The story has evolved. And I can guarantee you this, you are going to be blown away that they have a completely new look, yet again, going into season two.”
He added, “In Season 2, you are going to see much different designs. You are going to see different houses you haven’t seen before. One of the most important things to us was that at this point in canon, as we head towards the current version of unification, the houses really each grow up on different planets. It is an Empire, it is not just Qo’noS…We have seen six of the great houses in close up in season one. As we move forward into the next season, I promise that we will continue exploring and unpacking and unfolding that infinitely interesting story of what the Klingon culture looks like on a wider level.”

HALO--Master Chief will be a lead character in the Showtime series based on the video game.
