I am looking for the

by scott1019 » Sun Sep 18, 2011 8:09 pm

I am looking for the following.

DVP-S9000ES, TA-E80ES, TA-E77ES, CDP-X7ESD, and STR-GX10ES.

I have a working GX9ES and parts unit with remote GX10ES I would trade towards a mint GX10ES.  Both have the Rosewood sides.

I also have a EP9ES, NS3100ES, NC555ES, X202ES, and 508ESD that I would be willing to trade towards any one of the units above.   Thanks for any help you guys can offer!

No TA-N77ES on your list??

No TA-N77ES on your list??

Nice list you got there. I would have loved to try a CDP-X7ESD, but managed to get a 1990 CDP-X77ES, which had the new HDLC converters. To date it was the best digital playback device I enjoyed the most. The TA-E80ES is a very nice preamp, I had 3 over the years, I also had 1 TA-E77ESD, which I sold as it was not in the best shape for my collection at the time.

A X77ES would be nice

by scott1019 » Mon Sep 19, 2011 12:41 pm

A X77ES would be nice too, you mean the newer Pulse convertors right?  I have several of those players, the early ones have a bit more inner detail and are just overall better sounding to my ears.

As I have documented on a number of threads I am completely happy with the BB PCM58 DAC chips used in the 508ESD/608ESD/X7ESD.   They have the sound I am looking for and will beat even reference players built today by a fair margin!

Not looking for the venerable TA-N77ES... or any other Sony amp really.  I think I am set in that area... I am very happy with my 330ES and 110ES as well as my myriad of different Sony receivers.

by frahengeo » Mon Sep 19, 2011 3:32 pm

Scott,

I see the S9000ES DVD Player on Audiogon quite frequently. Good luck with your search.

The CDP-X77ES used the "1 bit" High Density Linear Converter, I beleive Pulse came later, but I could be wrong. It did sound nice and could never afford one when it came out in 1990 at a retail of $2400 CDN.

As for the Amp, I would seriously seek out a TA-N80ES. It's in a different league IMO from the amps you have now, especially if you have power hungry speakers. The N80 is not as expensive as the N77, but are essentially the same amp. I tried the TA-N55ES, TA-N330ES, TA-N220, TA-N77ES, TA-N80ES and various recievers, and so far, for sound, the nod goes to the TA-N80ES overall. Very smooth and effortless, and I actually did like the balanced ins that I used from my balanced out of the TA-E80ES. It provided a very quiet and powerfull sound.

by scott1019 » Thu Sep 22, 2011 4:35 am

I just got a S9000ES, so I can scratch this off my list.

Revised wanted list TA-E80ES, TA-N80ES (based on your suggestion), TA-E77ES, CDP-X7ESD, and GX10ES (trade for both a working GX9ES, and parts/unit GX10ES)
