Hi  My pc original never used

by boblee » Sun Feb 17, 2008 12:08 pm

Hi  My pc original never used restore disk, now it starts to boot but a error comes up (txtsetup.sif is corupt or missing) any key to exit. I set bios to boot from dvd rom. The recovery wizzard starts but  when it gets to (eject the disk and click ok) i clik ok and it starts over again. I emailed sony tech, they said boot to rcovery dvd cancel and exit to dos then use fdisk - remove and regenerate all HHd partions then try again. Did you ever hear about this? if so how do i exit to dos with no windows? I went to sonys download site and they have a lot of downlods for my system  will those downloads help me restore my system?

Thanks Bob

Welcome to the forum.  Sounds like

Welcome to the forum.  Sounds like you are stuck in the setup routine and can't get passed that point of installing Windows after removing the disk.  This type of problem can be caused by a variety of things, but usually indicates a hardware problem (memory/harddisk) or your system configuration has changed since your purchase.  Have you added any additonal hardware or changed anything recently ?

Bob,

Greetings and welcome.

Do follow NiteHawk's advice and eliminate the possibility of a hardware problem.

If it does get to the point where you need to run fdisk you need to do this without running Windows. To do this you will need to create a bootable floppy or CD that you will insert before you turn on your computer. The disk will have DOS on it and when you boot up off of the floppy/CD it will create a virtual drive that you can run DOD from. Once you are at the command prompt simply type in the fdisk command with the drive path of your operating system.

Do be aware that when you run fdisk you will loose all information on that drive.

If your interested in creating a bootable disk, check out THIS site for free downloads.
