I a re-connecting my Sony DVPCX777ES CD/DVD Changer to my STRDA2000ES and am wondering what would be the best possible way to make the connections.
1. Digital - Optical (Does not allow surround sound.)
2. 5.1 Channel Ouput (Allows various surround sounds.)
3. Analog
I have previously used option #3 and but would like to get it set up the best way possible.

Robert,
Digital optical supports all the same surround modes supported by digtial coax cables. I am going with optical due to audio drop-out issues with coax on my 5000ES. I am told the Sony receivers are extra sensitive to grounding issues caused by using different outlets.

Option 1 & 2 both. Option 2 is the only way you can listen to SACD. option 1 will allow your receiver to decode the DD 5.1 and DTS soundtracks on your DVD's. Your CD's will play fine through either connection.

For the most economical and totally RFI free interface between your player and Receiver I would recommend using 30M hz bandwidth Fused Silica Glass Toslink Digital Optical interconnect-

This Toslink is totally superior to 5-6M hz bandwidth plastic conductor Toslink and many of our Members use it with their Sony Digital Receivers with great results.
As Larry said if you wish to listen to SACD you will have to use the Multichannel Analog imputs though.

Thanks for the replies !!! I am off to get the digital cables to make the connections. My plans are to have both the digital and 7.1 analog conenctions and select the one I want to use.
