I configurated my KDL-40U4000 for hours with no satisfying result. Blurry, too bright, bad white color balance, dull colors etc I have a very cheap small 4:3 tv right next to it, and it has a perfect picture imo, which saddens me even more.

Anyone got a good screen setup for the KDL-4OU4000 that gives a luscious color balance, a sharp picture with a bright white, but deep black etc

Or at least for a similar TV (that features black light, theatre mode, color mode: cold etc so I can test it out).

all help appreciated

What you need is a TV calibration DVD.  Check out the link.  I use the first one listed.

does the input source matter?
my tv is connected to my pc so I yould use some sort of online calibration or something, or would the same setup used for the tv program look off?

What type of input do you have coming from your computer?   Is it component video or HDMI?  What is the resolution?  Is it HD or SD?  You will need a test disk that you can play in your PC to test the video connection from your PC.

it's a DVI to HDMI cable. 1080p HD resolution.

are there no online calibration tutorials with pictures or is it only available on a disc?

There may be something on YouTube, but mostly its on DVD's. If you have a BD player in your computer, get a BD. If you have a DVD player in the computer, get a DVD.

thanks to your tip I found on youtube a mentioning of "dccw.exe", windows 7's own color calibration. I slightly tuned my pc monitor and mc tv on the "hdmi pc" channel, however they looked allready pretty good, and when I try to use that very setup for my normal "Tv program" it looks simply dull =/
i simply can't get it crispy, bright and colorful, no matter what I seem to try.
a calibration DVD / Blue ray would yield the same result I fear, since it yet again uses either my HDMI PC or HDMI PS3 input, which doesn't has the same "picture" input that my tv program has.

that's why I want to know if others have found some settings I could try =/

found this: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/sony-kdl40v4000-review-20080822127.htm
didn't think it very good to be honest. I dunno, I want white to be white and not some greyish yellow like that setup gives. found a few interesting aspects tho. the result is that I finally found a setting which I deem to be "sufficent":

in any case someone wonders:
Mode: Standard
Blacklight: 9
Contrast: 99
Brightness: 32
Color: 70
Color Temperature: Neutral
Sharpness: min
Noise Reduction + MPEG NR: Normal/High/Auto
Adv. Contrast Enhancerff
Live Color: Off

Nur ein man mit hohen Idealen kann große Siege erringen. Die Ideale können ohne Talent jedoch nicht verwirklich werden, und das Talent kann ohne eine richtige Methode allein nichts ausrichten.
