Problem using Recovery DVD's Model VGN-FW140E

This Forum is questions on any installation you could have with your Sony computer system (i.e. How to install, what wires go to where, what drivers need to be installed, etc...)

I have problems recovering the PC.  When I turn it on it says "Windows is loading files..."  and then start to Windows.

I press F10 and it says

"Edit Windows boot options for:  Windows Setup

Path:  windowssystem32bootwinload.exe

[ /DETECTHAL /MININT /REDIRECT RDIMAGEOFFSET=8192 RDIMAGELENGTH=3161088 R DPATH=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0) partition(1)sourcesboot.wim
                                                                                                                                           ]

Don't know what to do.  I will appreciate all the help you can give.

Thanks.

Have you tried starting it in safe mode:

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power

Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.

Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.

Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

To use the System Configuration Utility method

Close all open programs.

Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.

The computer restarts in Safe mode.

Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer

Also, what operating system is it? XP, Vista?

Once you are in safe mode, can the DVD be run at that time?

Is the data backed up?

There is the way to reload the Vista, with out delete any of the data from the HDD. once you installed in that way, you will be recover the data. but you have reload the applications.

step 1: boot from the os cd (bootable CD)
while boot from it, there will screen which says upgrade or custom. select the custom and nextscreen shows up partition. select the os partition and reload it.
Once vista is installed. go to "C"
drive and there will be folder with says windows.old. where you can see all user's data.

What happens when you hit either f8, f10 or f11 after you start the computer up?

F8- Windows is loading files...

Advance Opitons.   Safe Mode...
None of them start windows.

F10- Windows is loading files...

Edit Windows boot options for:  Windows Setup

Path:  \windows\system32\bootwinload.exe

[ /DETECTHAL /MININT /REDIRECT RDIMAGEOFFSET=8192 RDIMAGELENGTH=3161088 R DPATH=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0) partition(1)sourcesboot.wim

Dont know what to do.

F11- Windows is loading files...  then, loading windows, then the screen stays black

The recovery DVD #1 is inserted all the time.
