I've been playing around with an idea I had. It seems that all the passive pre-amps I'd seen were basically boring black boxes. Perfect time for something a little different. I think it would go nicely with the wood side panels on a vintage Sony amp. Wadda' ya' think?

I used a carbon potentiometer from DIY-Hifi supply, some nickel-free gold-plated RCA jacks from a vendor on eBay, and some solid-core copper magnet wire from Ratshack. Oh yeah, the cigar box was won off eBay too. Being a passive pre (technically just an attenuator) that's all there is.

RickeyM- I applaud the design of your passive preamp in its wooden enclosure and it reminds me of the locally successful Quicksilver Preamps and Phono Amps that came out of Vancouver WA about 10 years ago which had hand crafted wooden cases only with an aluminum faceplate.

I've got some slightly larger ones to use for my speaker's external x-overs

A quick pick of the external x-over boxes for my Maggies. I just test fitted the binding posts and I'll be mounting the comonents in there later today.
