Well, it's been a while since I've posted.  I've been here reading a lot.  But I have not had a lot to say.
BUT things have changed in the Wallew household on several levels.

First and foremost on a personal level, we've lost two of our five animals.  King Louie was 12 1/2 and had gotten cancer really bad.  We held him tight while our doc gave him the shot.  There was not a dry eye in the house when this happened, as everyone loved good old King Louie.  Rest in Peace my old friend, rest in peace.  Mom & Dad loved you very much.

Then we lost Gabriel at the age of 4 1/2.  He had survived a spinal cord injury and was pretty much completely recovered.  Then one day, after his lunch he went back to our bedroom to take a nap in front of 'his fan'.  He passed away in his sleep.  THAT really took the wind out of my sails for about three months.  I'm slowly showing my face in public again without crying these days.  But this was a heartbreaker for me.  I had spent the past year and a half helping him recover from his injury which had brought us very close together and as I said, he had pretty much recovered. Then he just left us.  I was so distraught,  when we took his body to our vet, I couldn't even get out of the car.  Rest in Peace my young friend, Mom & Dad will miss you very much and we loved you very much.

We have one more that will be leaving us soon.  Eliot is almost 13 years old and for large dogs, thats unheard of.  We are in uncharted waters as none of our animals has ever lived this long.  He's doing well, but is losing weight slowly as he grows older.  We will miss Eliot when he's gone, but he's lived longer than any pet we've owned, so we are mentally prepared.

On a brighter note, one day I had brought Gabriel in for his accupuncture visit at our vets, one of the vet techs sandbagged me.  She walked by the door (a couple of times I found out later) holding a small white ball of fluff.  Claire Bear was stepped on by a horse at the age of five weeks.  It crushed her right rear hip and rotated her right rear leg 45 degrees at the lower joint.  My vet removed the crushed hip joint, as it was in numerous pieces which caused her great pain.  We've left her rotated joint alone.  She'll never be able to use her right rear leg properly, yet she trys the best she can.  But as she was in a lot of pain before my vet operated on her hip removing all the broken bones, she 'learned' to carry her right rear leg up.  This caused her right ligaments to atrophy and she can't stretch that leg all the way out to the ground and normally just runs along on three legs with the right leg trying to hit the ground.  Lots of physical therapy with me has helped a little, but in truth she'll never be 'whole'.  WHO CARES.  Claire Bear has grow to 75 lbs (she was 20 lbs when we got her at three months) and is full of life and leads the pack outside when it's time to go.

SO that's been our life on a personal level.

ON A SONY LEVEL, there has been some changes made.

First off, I did purchase a Sony DVP-NC555ES.  Thanks with the help of Toli.  Thx T.  It's now attached to our 9000ES in our great room HT.

Second, I upgraded our projection system from a Toshiba TLP710 to a Toshiba TLP770 (made by Sony of course).  It's 25% brighter and it's HD picture is astounding.  It went right into the same place as the old one was at.  So that worked out well.  And my guy took the TLP710 back as a trade in and the upgrade only cost us $250.  NOW THAT'S A GREAT DEAL.  Thank you Jeff Mayes.  I purchased a spare bulb and he included a spare bulb holder for free, so I can literally swap it out, even when the old bulb is still hot and it's ready to go immediatley.

Third, I got a pretty kewl new stand for my equipment in the great room.  I bought it on sale at Circuit City for like $85 out the door.  As it's silver, it looks great with our equipment and works really well.  The shelf that the 9000ES sits on actually has extra reinforcement for the added weight.  Which is a good thing.  Our old black stand is now in our bedroom and works very well there.  It holds the STRDA5000ES quite well and fits into our bedroom easily.

Last, but not least, I finally purchased a pair of SSK30ED speakers for our bedroom.  I'm using an SSK90ED for the center speaker and I'm still looking for another pair of SSK30ED speakers for the rear of our bedroom set up.  I have already purchased the stands from Circuit City (again on sale very cheaply), so I'm ready, I've just got to find a set.

We still have not found an STRDA9000ES for our downstairs home theater.  Plus, it's becoming fairly apparent that my mother-in-law will be moving in with us, sooner rather than later.  So we've stepped up our search for a new home, which means I probably WON'T build the HT downstairs in THIS house.  In our new house, sure.  But this house is just not laid out well for my MIL to have her 'independence', even though she will depend on us completely to go anywhere.  But she NEEDS to feel she has her freedom.

So I guess I'll just keep looking for that second 9000ES.  And just have the patience to keep waiting for our move until I start designing our second Home Theater.

OK, please pardon the mess our house is in, I just grabbed the wife's digital camera to provide the pix.

Our new stand with the 9000ES and the DVP-NC555ES

The picture from our new projector - ok, I can't seem to hold the camera steady, my fault

Our bedroom setup - Sony 53" rear projection tv, 5000ES, SSK30ED's and SSK90ED - gotta replace that cheapy DVD player and VCR - probably with a 'combo' unit

Jim,

Thanks for the update and the new pictures. Really sorry to hear about King Louie and Gabriel. We become so attached to our pets and to lose two of them that close together has to be really tough.

Your new silver stand looks great and compliments your all silver components nicely. Quite an impressive bedroom set up too!

jttar,
The only negative thing about the bedroom setup is it seems most of the Directv stuff coming out is black, not silver.  Which is a big bummer.

I LIKE the silver.  I can't remember who here collected some Sony equipment in that golden color.  It was even kewler than the silver in my eyes.  But so rare.  I like the silver equipment and am still looking for one more STRAD9000ES.

I may have found a place that has it.  But they want an arm and a leg for it.  Gotta get the 'bosses' approval on that expenditure.  But if we make that move to SF, she will be willing to add that second 9000ES to the setup.  Because it will allow us to have a second HT.  Which if her Mom comes to live with us when we move to SF, there will be times when either she or I will want to watch something different and will want to see it on the big screen.

I would again like to thank ALL the folks here.  And you jttar my man, get a large nod.  You were the one who helped me start this thread.  I can't tell you how much it's meant.

Toli and Maxx have also meant so much.  As have a lot of the rest of the crew.  Mav, jehill, MMMike, rb, and I KNOW there are lots of other folks I can't remember that have helped and given me the knowledge and confidence to continue on in my never ending quest for Sony A/V perfection.

Yes, I know we all have a different idea of 'Sony perfection'.  And it really doesn't matter, because in spirit, we are all looking for the same thing.

my best to everyone here.  you folks have no idea how much it has meant to me in the past few months.  you've kept me willing to continue fighting against the darkness that was my life for almost two months.  thank you one and all.

jim

Jim,

I am in the direct opposite direction. Recently I upgraded my DirecTV receivers to the H21 and the HR21 and was happy to see that they were both in black and blended well with my all black Sony components. Having a difference in choice is what makes the world go around.

Thank you for the wonderful compliment of me having anything to do with helping you to start this thread. It is my pleasure and honor to be a part of your distraction from your recent grief. That's what friends are for and I am happy to have been any part of it.

Well, I thought I would post an update.

We moved.

From Denver to Keller, Texas.  Think Dallas/Ft Worth area.

And we now have different set ups.  The equipment has not changed much (New TV in bedroom), but the HOUSE changed.

Still the same size (2600 sq ft) and still a 3/2, but in Denver we lived in the top half 1300 sq ft and used the basement as storage.

NOW we use the whole house.  The rooms are twice as large because we no longer have a basement.

I was going to add a second HT in our basement in Denver.  I was actually close to starting up on that build when this change came about.

Ah well, I'll take pix in the next couple of weeks.  We moved last summer into Texas when it was 105 degrees for the longest time on record.  Figures.

But, the house we got is a nice on.  It sits on one acre, so we have four times the property.

AND we got a pool with the house.  So I can't complain too much.  Life goes on...
