Jim,

If I had a 100" computer monitor to read the threads at Agoraquest I wouldn't even need my "cheaters" to read the screen. The computer interface with your projector looks like it worked out great. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I hooked my laptop to my projector (58" screen) and all that cursor zipping around made me feel a little sea sick

AND there is a 'monitor out' on the projector, so I can just hook up my flat screen if I ever need a 'quick fix' on the internet while watching something else on the tube.

As I sit here and type this, I am listening to 'soft jazz' over satellite.  LIFE IS GOOD.

Now, about that 9000ES.  SHHH, don't tell the wife, yet.  She just wouldn't understand my 'need' for it.  Like jttar says, I be spending money like my HT is my mistress.

And Maxx, none of this would have been possible without all the insight I get here.  I would have NEVER spent this money if I did not truly believe that I have purchased some of the best equipment in the world.  And I also believe it will last me for the rest of my life.  Well, most of it will.  Hard to say about some of the smaller pieces like cables, etc, but you never know.

Just gotta get the wife's ok on where the projector is and then run the cables in the wall.  Plus get the 12 ga OFC speaker wire and then I'm done for  a while.  Still will want to add some form of DVD-R to the system eventually.  Plus MAYBE a CD carosel.  We'll see.

Jim- I have cables that have outlasted 3 different pieces of equipment that they were hooked up to. Quality wiring can turn out to be a long term investment.

You have come a long way in such short time! You may have to include A/V Specialist to your qualificatons list in the near future.

Maxx,
That's what happens when you drop one portion of your life and 'move on' to another. I sold my Harley and all my camera equipment due to my health causing me to take just enough medication to make it dangerous to ride any more.  The camera equipment I have used for more than fifteen years as a freelance moto photo journalist.  Both are now closed chapters in my life.

It took me a year and a half to be honest with myself about that issue.  But I'm GLAD I've dropped those two hobbies and have 'moved on' to collecting audio equipment.  My education is far from over.  As a matter of fact, I feel like I did as a freshman in college all those years ago.

So much to learn.  Glad I'm still healthy and happy enough to learn and enjoy the results.  The funny part is the wife doesn't quite understand why I 'need' so many speakers.  We haven't discussed the 9000 yet.  I haven't worked up the guts to tell her I want to spend another $2000+ for that 'final' piece of excellent audio gear.

But in the past year she has purchased a new car, a dining room set and several other items, ALL at my urging.  So, a little while longer and we will sit down and have the first of many "But dear, I REALLY NEED" discussions.

Mike,
I have started using your analogy about 'think of this audio equipment like my Harley.  Hey, it's better than me having a mistress and just blowing it, right?"  She always likes that last line...

Jim- You may not own your Harley any longer, but you are certainly putting together your A/V system like you would a finely crafted machine that suprisingly enough performs even better than it looks.

I have always considered Audio equipment a good long term investment. I have Audio equipment that I have owned for over 25 years and it still functions perfectly whenever I call upon it to do so.

Audio equipment does not require any overly expensive fuel or insurance to operate. It does not require a liscence and registration fee to use it or a parking fee when your not. Maintanance is also affordable and easy to perform.

Besides that, there's more than one kind of Heavy Metal Thunder! Like the kind that comes from 11 SS K90ES's all going off simultaneously!

Maxx,
It's funny how correct you are about collecting audio equipment and how long a great set of equipment will last.

It's also funny how some people get it and others just don't.  While my wife falls into the second category, she's very forgiving of my 'oddities' as it were.

And after twenty-five years together, I feel particularly blessed that she DOES put up with my weirdness.

All I'm looking for right now is the HD receiver for our Directv account.  While the Sony's look great, it seems the Toshiba's do a little better job for the money spent.

And I've been reading the SSX70ED thread AND the ongoing thread by Mike about upgrading the SSK90ED's.  So there is always room for improvement. But like Mike said, "if I can afford more expensive speakers, I can afford more expensive equipment".

At some point, we all have to just be 'happy' with where we are.  I'm about there.  Though I would truly love to add that 9000ES before they all disappear.  That would be the pinnacle for my home theater collection.  We will see.

I wonder what it's gonna cost me?  Or correctly said, I wonder what purchase the wife is going to make that will allow ME to buy the 9000ES?  LIFE IS GRAND these days.

AND IT'S ALL DUE TO ALL THE GREAT FOLKS HERE!  THANKS A MILLION to all of you.

I thought I would add an update.  I just ordered a Sony SAT-HD300 (used off of Ebay) as my HD satellite receiver.  I'll let you know how it works once it once it comes in.

Does anyone else here have this receiver?  I was told that HD is ONLY on component out, DVI and HDMI outs.  As I only have component in on my 5000ES, I can't use the other two.  I was also told that it shuts down the Svideo and composite outputs.  Is this true?

You are correct on the HD on component,DVI and HDMI. However the 5000es upconverts s-video and composite to component so it will not shut them down.

I assume you are using the monitor out on your component connection to your viewing source.
