this problem is not caused by dust or other contamination, but by degeneration of one of the polarizers.

Depending on the model this polarizers could be integrated in the optical unit or they could be individually replaced. Each LCD has an ´inner´ and an ´outer´ polarizer. For the first mentioned types exchanging the complete optical block, the prism block or an individual LCD is necessary. In any of this cases the 3D Gamma and LUT data which are supplied with the new unit has to be loaded into the projector. For the models with separate polarizers, you can simply replace the polarizer and adjust it mechanically for optimum performance.

In general, the polarizers for the blue LCD are first detoriating.
